New Zealand Warriors v Manly Sea Eagles, Mt Smart Stadium, Sunday August 27, 2pm AEST
Manly’s Finals hopes rest on a knife edge heading into Round 25, having lost their last two matches. Their recent decline in form has come about at just the wrong time of the year and they need to bounce back against the New Zealand Warriors this weekend. The Sea Eagles sit in joint 8th spot on the ladder with North Queensland who are in their own slump at the moment.
With both sides two points ahead of the 9th placed Dragons who play in the last fixture of Round 25. Manly will turn to the Trbojevic brothers for inspiration to get their season back on track. With Tom Trbojevic needing a big performance from full back. William Hill has the Sea Eagles priced at $1.52 to get the win by they may well secure them Finals footy.
The Warriors will be out to spoil Manly’s chance whilst also ending their horror seven game losing streak. As in previous years they have just been unable to maintain consistency throughout the year. The return of Shaun Johnson to the side will be a major boost as they look to overturn a price of $2.55 with William Hill. They will also be hoping to end a run of six straight losses to the Sea Eagles as they look to salvage some pride from this season.
Bet of the Match: Manly to Win by 1-12 points at $3
Penrith Panthers v St George Illawarra Dragons, Pepper Stadium, Sunday August 27, 4pm AEST
Penrith come into their match against the Dragons in fantastic form. They have won seven matches straight to give themselves a shot at the top four. Whilst they will be relying on others above them dropping points, they will know that they just need to keep winning.
The Panthers will be out for revenge against the Dragons after they were hammered 42-10 all the way back in Round 1. The loss of Matt Moylan will be a blow to Penrith but they will be confident that they can match their price of $1.52 with William Hill. Having won the last three of these fixtures that have been held in Penrith, the Panthers faithful with have one eye on the top four.
St George-Illawarra need a win, to put it simply. Regardless of what happens in the other fixtures this weekend, the Dragons know that only a win here will do if they are to make the Finals. They have won three straight against the Panthers despite their form in Penrith.
Their current form is circumspect as well with last week’s loss to the Broncos piling on the misery. If they can overturn the odds with a win here priced at $2.55, then they have a real chance of making Finals as they take on the Bulldogs in the final Round of the year.
There is plenty of work to be done in this fixture though before they can start thinking about anything else. A loss here and they can start planning their holidays.
