One canny footy punter has turned his confidence in a trio of Sunday AFL upsets into a $90,000 collect courtesy of a 10-leg sports multi which cost him just $50.
He rolled that bet into Adelaide at a -12.5 line, Essendon at the -24.5 line (they won by 27), Melbourne to beat Port Adelaide, the Bulldogs at the -18,5 line, Sydney at -26.5 and Hawthorn at -3.5.
When the Lions saluted, the punter picked up $91,488.54 on that multi and another $20,401.92 on a six-leg multi involving Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Hawthorn, Richmond and Brisbane.
All-in-all, it was a payday of nearly $122,000 for a $150 investment, and we hope the punter if a Pies supporter after they pulled off a miraculous win against West Coast to ensure he got the first 91k payout.
Collingwood trailed by 16 points heading into time-on but kicked the final four goals of the match to snatch one of their best wins of the seasons.
Because the Eagles led by 24 points early in the final quarter, Sportsbet had to pay out as part of their 24-up promotion, where they pay out on teams who lead by four goals or more during a match.
It was Sportsbet’s worst result of the year with $1.5 million paid out of 4991 losing West Coast bets. They included bets of $15,000 and $10,000.
“Since we started the 24 UP promotion, we’ve paid out $5.3 million on losing bets but this one’s easily the biggest. Everyone’s a winner except us it seems,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
