Weekend Wrap: AG Staff salute with 9 winners and a profit of $23

Mon, Mar 20, 2:47pm by Head Editor

It’s time once again, to look back at myself and the rest of the team at’s best bets for the weekend that included nine winners across six sports.

Once again, our betting weekend started on Thursday over in India, when Australia and India met in the third Test. The visitors started the match extremely well, posting 451 in the innings, 178 of which were made by the skipper Steve Smith, we should have taken the $5 for him to make a ton, but we’ll be happy with the $2.25 for a 50.

On Thursday night, Round Three of the NRL kicked off in Melbourne and just as was the case in the opening two weeks of the season, we made a handy return. We took the Storm by 1-12 points and once again it was the ice-man Cameron Smith who kept his cool to nail the conversion from the sideline in the 78th minute to keep the Storm unbeaten.

Thank you Cam for the more than handy return of $3. Parramatta weren’t able to get the job done for us in our second bet against the Titans but we bounced back with the Roosters nail-biting win over the Panthers seeing $3.10 go into the AG wallet.

On Sunday, we took the Raiders by over 13 points against the Tigers and thanks to a ruthless second half display, the $2.40 was always safe as the men from the nation’s capital ran in eight tries to one.

There are some worrying signs for the Sharks, who we took to win by 1-12 points over the Dragons but the reigning Premiers were beaten for the second time in the opening three weeks.

On the track, we had an off day, which we were probably due for, after backing several winners in the past month.

In Sydney, we previewed the world’s richest race for two year olds, the Golden Slipper. Our best bet was Houtzen, who ran a good race but finished just outside the placings in fifth.

Our luck didn’t get any better at Flemington, our best bet came up in race four, Arctic Angel, who ran a disappointing eighth. Looking for some more value, we selected Staviva in race seven, who resumed from a 12-month spell but he didn’t get close.

Just as She will Reign was saluting in the Golden Slipper at Rosehill, the Raptors surprised the Pistons in Detroit in their NBA contest, which didn’t help our pocket.

Neither did the Champions Cleveland, losing their fifth of their last eight games in LA against the Clippers.

There were only three A-League games this weekend as the season’s first split round came to a close with the three Australian clubs competing in the Asian Champions League returning from their break from domestic action.

The first of our selections proved to be a good one with City banging four goals past Newcastle on Saturday night for a handy return of $2.25. That’s where our luck ended though as we tipped Brisbane to beat Adelaide but United saluted for just their fourth win of the season and then Wanderers beat the Phoenix, where we had a draw.

Staying with the world game, but across in the UK, we bounced back with a nice multi of Everton beating Hull (4-0) and Chelsea beating Stoke (2-1) for a handy collect of $3.10.

Staying in England and in the early hours of Sunday morning, Jimi Manuwa knocked out Corey Anderson in the first round of their UFC Light Heavyweight showdown, $1.67 went into the AG account for that crushing hit.

Speaking of big hits, the Crusaders win over the Blues had plenty of those, the 33-24 win handed us a collect of $2.60. In the next two of our best bets, we had the winners, but not the right margin, as both the Brumbies (over the Waratahs) and the Hurricanes (over the Highlanders) were by over 12 points.

If you can just keep the margins down for us next week guys, we would appreciate it. Thank you.

Finally, Adelaide’s 24 point win over the Pies on Sunday handed them a spot in the inaugural AFL Women’s Grand Final and handed us a handy collect of $1.95. The Crows will meet the Lions at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast in the decider on Saturday.

Our overall result for the weekend was a return of $223.20 if you bet $10 per selection and a profit of $23.20. A good weekend on the punt but we’ll aim to do even better for you next week.
