Racing – Newmarket, Australian Cup and Randwick Guineas
IASbet.com expert racing analyst, Gerard Twomey previews the Super Saturday meeting at Flemington and the transferred Randwick Guineas card at Warwick Farm.
Flemington race 6 – Newmarket Handicap
Impossible to go past world champion sprinter Black Caviar and even though she’s weighted to carry 1.5kg above weight for age, it doesn’t look enough to stop her winning streak. Flemington specialist Star Witness is a clear second pick with Hay List and Beaded worthy of consideration for the exotics.
Flemington Race 7 – Australian Cup
No stand out weight for age performers this year with the departure of So You Think. Precedence won over this course and distance last year by seven lengths and recorded a faster time and better sectionals than Zipping in the Australian Cup. He flies third up and the master trainer, Bart Cummings has an excellent record in the event. Shocking loves Flemington and looks over the odds on his Makybe Diva Stakes win and Turnbull placing. Heart Of Dreams is slightly suspect at the trip and is no overs at the early price of $4.50. Ginga Dude has blinkers first time, should get the run of the race and looks over the odds based on his third here in the Mackinnon. Alcopop is back in form, while Moudre and Linton will both appreciate the big track. Linton has blinkers first time and can run a big race.
Warwick Farm Race 6 – Randwick Guineas
Ilovethiscity is the deserved favourite on his soft win in the Hobartville. He possesses the best turn of foot and from the good draw he should settle in the first five and prove the hardest to beat. Skilled had no luck when caught wide last time but from barrier 3 he’s the logical danger in this. Retrieve raced well when fresh, but might be looking for further second up with the Derby being his primary focus. Pressday and Masquerader have both been a little disappointing this preparation, but their best form would have them in contention at attractive odds.
