Teams: Carlton Blues ($1.37) vs Essendon Bombers ($3.20)
Date/Venue: 7:40pm, Saturday 24 August 2013 at the MCG
A bitter rivalry exists between these two teams. Carlton unexpectedly found form against the Tigers last week and they need to continue it here to stay alive in the hunt for the finals.
Essendon were under the pump again this week with the drugs scandal and the release of charges against the club. They have lost their last four matches and are very nearly spiralling out of control as the shadow around the club continues to darken.
Carlton have it all to play for. If they win, they stay a chance of making the eight.
Where to Bet on Blues vs Bombers: www.IASbet.com
The last time these two sides met (Round 11 in 2013), the Bombers won by a slim 5 points. Essendon were going much better then. They are going pretty bad at present. To make it worse, the Bombers have lost Heppell and Bellchambers for this match. Meanwhile, the Blues will be boosted by the return of Kruezer.
Essendon are lacking confidence and they just can’t seem to score points of late. They only managed 9 goals last week and that amount the week before. Against Collingwood in Round 19, they were restricted to a meagre 5 goals. Bellchambers is one of the Bombers “go to” goal scorers. He’s out for this match so that just makes the Bombers task tougher. Without Heppell, they also lack someone to feed the ball to the forwards.
Carlton won last week but they haven’t been great this year. They have the most to play for in this match. They will win the match simply because of the external pressure the Bombers are under and how poorly performed Essendon have been during the last month.
Blues Head to Head: $1.44
Bombers Head to Head: $2.75
I would suggest this head to head market for multi betters. Throw it in as one of your legs as Carlton should defeat the demoralised Bombers in this AFL Round 22 matchup.
Blues -17.5: $1.92 with IASbet.com
Bombers: +17.5: $1.92
The Blues need to score just under three goals more than the Bombers to be successful in this market. The Bombers have been comprehensively beaten by more than this in each of their last four games.
Blues 1-39: $2.20
Blues 40+: $3.20
Bombers 1-39: $3.60
Bombers 40+: $14.00
Carlton’s form hasn’t been spectacular and I can’t be confident that they will flog the Bombers. As such, I am sticking to the Blues in the 1-39 margin market.
