MLB Betting for April 14, 2011

Wed, Apr 13, 10:52pm by Kevin Pitstock

Let’s look at a trio of games and make our prediction after checking the odds from Sportsbet.
Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox Preview

The Rays send James Shields with a 0-1 record to the mound to face the Boston Red Sox. Shields has a lifetime mark of 5 wins and 9 losses in the 16 starts he has made against them. In his last start vs. the White Sox, he gave up eight hits and five runs but did not figure in the outcome. He has a poor record at Fenway Park where he has pitched 39 innings and has allowed 13 home runs. John Lackey fires for the Red Sox where he has a ballooned ERA of 15.58 and a 1-1 record. He has not been very good this year as he has allowed 17 runs in less than 9 innings. He won 14 games last year but has a good career record of 11-4 when facing the Rays.Neither pitcher has been impressive thus far and the bats are quiet. Evan Longoria is out for a few days and that hurts the Rays. Tough game to call but Lackey still can win a game and the odds from Sportsbet have Boston 1.68 and we predict they win this game.
Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates Preview

The Brewers send their off-season acquisition Shawn Marcum to the mound with his 1-1 record and a 4.22 ERA. His first start was a bit queasy but he has settled down and and defeated the Braves 4-2 with six innings of good work. In that game he walked two, struck out four and gave up five hits. Kevin Correia faces him for the Pirates. He has 2 wins and no losses on the young season with a stellar 2.29 ERA on the year. For his career he has made six starts and 13 appearances against the Brewers and is 2-3 with a 4.93 ERA. The Brewers will be looking for their first road win of the season. The Sportsbet odds bring Pittsburgh in at 2.10. Correia has been a hot pitcher and the Brewers are a cold hitting team. Bet the Pirates 2.10 with your bet.
Oakland A’s vs. Chicago White Sox Preview

Lefty Brett Anderson will hurl for Oakland with is 0-1 record but a very good 1.93 ERA. He pitched eight fabulous innings against the Twins and recorded 19 ground ball outs. In his 14 innings of work he has just allowed three runs. His lifetime performance against Chicago finds him with a 4.50 ERA and a 0-1 record. The current roster members of the White Sox are hitting a robust .318 against him. John Danks heads to the hill for the White Sox with no wins and one loss with a 4.50 ERA on the season. His starts have not been very good as his last performance he gave up four runs in six innings. He started once against Oakland last year and he gave up five runs in less than 7 innings of play. Several key players have hit Danks well from the Athletics. Sportsbet odds are the White Sox 1.92 for the win. Our free pick is that win this game.

Our Picks:

Chicago White Sox 1.92

Boston Red Sox 1.68

Pittsburgh Pirates 2.10
