Here are some games to be played on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 and the odds courtesy of Sportingbet.
Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees Preview
The Twins won one game over the weekend and was a bit disappointed as they had trouble hitting the ball. Denard Span got their only home run as he is hitting .455 after the 3 game series. In this game, Scott Baker takes the mound to face the Yankees with his 2-2 career record against them. He has a 4.15 ERA and finished Spring Training with five scoreless innings. The team ERA is a whopping 7.20 for the 3 game opening series. The Yankees send a 24 year old who has made seven career starts in the Major Leagues. Ivan Nova comes to the rotation out of necessity not luxury. He has a decent Spring Training with a 2-1 record and 1.80 ERA. The Yankees are pounding the ball as Mark Teixeria has bombed 3 home runs in 3 days. As a team the Yankees have hit 9 homers on the young season. Odds form Sportingbet have the Twins 2.36 which we have some confidence in this pick.
Pittsburgh Pirates at St Louis Cardinals Preview
The Cardinals salvaged a win over the weekend due to the pitching of youngster Jaime Garcia as he shutout the San Diego Padres. The Cardinals continue their anemic hitting as they ended last season. Albert Pujols has been relatively quiet so far this season. In this game they send Kyle Lohse to the mound. He won 4 games last year and lost 8. He had a very good spring with a 1.38 ERA. Lohse has always had the Pirates number with a career 4.58 ERA and a 3-1 record. The Pirates send Charlie Morton to the mound. Morton won 2 games last year but got stronger as the year progressed. One match-up to watch is Lance Berkman has two home runs and three doubles and is 5 for 6 in his career vs. Morton. Sportingbet odds have the Cardinals 1.68 and we have confidence that they get the win.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chicago Cubs Preview
The Cubs dropped 2 of 3 in the opening series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs got some good pitching from Zambrano and a mixed bag from Matt Garza. Today’s game has RH pitcher Randy Wells taking his 3.46 and 2-0 career mark against Arizona to the mound. The only player from the D-backs that has registered any success off of Wells in Stephen Drew and his 3 for 6 and .500 career average. Arizona starts Barry Enright who won 6 games last year and lost 7 games. He is a flyball pitcher a a recipe for disaster in Wrigley Field. Starlin Castro has led the Cubs offense with 8 hits out of 13 at bats. The Chicago Cubs are 1.69 from Sportingbet and our pick is they cover the bet.
