One of the biggest events of the All Star weekend is the 3 point contest and the dunk contest. Some of the best athletes in the NBA go toe-to-toe in a shooting contest and then the crowd favorite dunk contest.
This season all the All Star events are taking place in Los Angeles. The game it self will take place Sunday night at the Staples Center, which is home to both the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Slam Dunk Contest Overview
In the Slam Dunk Contest, the favorite coming in is home town fan Blake Griffin. After sitting last season, Griffin has emerged as a man child for the Clippers. Griffin is averaging a double double, in points and rebounds per game.
Next in line for the Slam Dunk contest is Demar DeRozan, JaVale McGee and Serge Ibaka. All of these players are relative unknowns in the NBA, but certainly have a ton of ability. Griffin comes in with huge favorite odds, at 1.35! DeRozan is 5.75, McGee 8.00 and Ibaka from Oklahoma City is at 10.0! These odds are all found at sportingbet.com!
3 pt. Contest Overview
The best shooters will square off in the three point contest. Many fans talk about this contest and feel they have the ability to do this, just like the pro’s. It’s only fitting that the best three point shooter of all time is the favorite to win this contest. Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics is 3.25 in this contest. Just recently, Allen passed Reggie Miller for the most three point shots made in the history of the NBA.
Behind Allen is Miami Heat sharpshooter James Jones. Jones is a role player for James, Wade and Bosh in Miami, but can stroke it with the best. Kevin Durant is in the event. Durant is the league’s top scorer, and took that award last year as well. Him and Allen’s teammate Paul Pierce both come in with 6.00 odds.
Slam Dunk/3pt Contest Prediction
The slam dunk contest will talk 75% about Blake Griffin. In front of his own fans, the emerging stud in the league, etc. But with all that being said, we look for Washington Wizards young gun Ja’Vale McGee to come away with the crown in this one. It will come down to the end, and McGee will do something spectacular to steak the shot.
In the three point contest, something just tells us that Ray Allen is going to struggle a bit. So we are going to take the best scorer in the game; Kevin Durant. When he gets hot, look out. Durant to win the contest.
Our picks: JaVale McGee 8.00 to win the Slam Dunk Contest and Kevin Durant 5.00 to win the three point shooting contest. Take these picks at Sportingbet!
