Game: Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Date/Time: Friday March 11th, 2011 / 10:00am AEST
The Miami Heat will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday morning. This is a big time game in the NBA, due to the teams involved. Both teams felt they were favorites in the league coming into the season. As of late, the two teams have head in opposite directions. The Miami Heat have lost five straight games, including a home game to Portland on Tuesday night. The Lakers have won eight straight games and eight of their last 10 overall.
Miami comes into the game as the third seed in the Eastern Conference; three games ahead of divisional foe Orlando. The Los Angeles Lakers have the third best record in the Western Conference, but would currently be the second seed out of the Western Conference due to their divisional crown. These two teams played on Christmas Day, with the Heat blowing out the Lakers at the Staples Center.
Miami Heat Overview:
The Heat were the talk of the league before the season started. To join Dwyane Wade, they acquired LeBron James and Chris Bosh, who were both All Stars last season. James is scoring 26.3 points per game, and also dishing out more than 7 assists per game. The Heat are scoring 101.5 points per game, while they are allowing 95.
Miami has plenty of drama going around, as they lost to the Bulls Sunday for the third straight time this season. Reports were that some of the players were crying after the loss. Then, the Heat lost at home to Portland, only to have big man Chris Bosh blow-up at reporters about his roll on the team.
Los Angeles Lakers Overview:
Phil Jackson, in his final season as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers would love to win his third straight NBA title. The Lakers have been red-hot, including their blow-out win over the Spurs Sunday in San Antonio. The Lakers have a huge lead over Phoenix for the divisional lead.
Kobe Bryant is scoring 25.1 points per game, for top five in the NBA. Los Angeles ranks 8th in the league with 101.8 points per game, while they are also 7th in defense, allowing 95.2 points per game. The Lakers need to win 11 of their last 17 games to win as many games as they did last season.
Heat/Lakers Pick and Prediction:
In one of the biggest match-ups in the NBA, these two teams will certainly get after it. LeBron James and Kobe Bryant always have great, tough battles when they go at each other. The Heat’s struggles will continue, as Los Angeles is coming to play in this game. Look for the Lakers to come away with this one.
Our Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -2 over the Miami Heat. Bet the Lakers at Centrebet.
