Sun, Feb 13, 2:23pm by Kevin Pitstock

Fans of the National Basketball Association are in for quite a treat on Sunday afternoon when the Boston Celtics host the Miami Heat at the TD Garden. The Celtics and Heat are the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Miami’s eight game winning streak has moved them 1/2 game ahead of the Celtics.

These two teams have met twice this season, including the season opener. Boston has won both games. The Heat and Celtics will get together in the final week of the season, and possibly could be on a collison course to meet in the Eastern Conference finals.
Boston Celtics Overview

The Celtics have hit a bit of a speed bump, losing two straight games – including a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. Boston leads the Atlantic Division by 11.5 games over the New York Knicks. Boston won 50 games last season, after winning 62 and 66 the previous two seasons.

Boston is led in scoring by Paul Pierce, and his 18.9 points per game. The Cetics as a team are scoring 98.2 points per game, which ranks them 17th in the nation. Boston has been the best assists per game team in the country, as they are averaging 24.5 per game. Rajon Rondo is leading the way with 12.3 per game. Boston is also the best defensive team in the nation, allowing 91.5 per game.
Miami Heat Overview

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James have picked up their play on the court. After a rough start to the season, and stretch mid season wherer they were banged up, Miami has emerged as a title contender. The Heat have won eight straight games, and moved to a season high six games up on the Magic and Hawks in the division. James is scoring nearly 27 points per game and just shy of 8 assists per game.

The Heat are scoring 102.1 points per game, which ranks them 10th overall. Defensively, Miami has been pretty solid, allowing 94.1 points per game. The Heat are just eight wins shy of their win total from the 2009-2010 season, with 47.
Celtics/Heat Tips and Predictions

Anytime these two teams get together, fans are in for some exciting action. Both of these teams have some of the best players in the game. It will be fun to see the combination of Rondo, Pierce, Allen and Garnett take on James, Wade and Bosh. The Heat seem to be playing their best basketball of the season, while Boston’s aging team has struggled a bit as of late.

The Miami Heat are -1.5 coming into the game. The odds makers are giving the road team the benefit of the doubt. Because of their recent play our expert pick in this game is for the Heat to win the game. Miami covers the spread on the road in Boston!
