Boston, Massachusetts will be the scene for this National Basketball Association contest between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics. The game will be played on February 4, 2011 at Madison Square Gardens where the Celtics have an outstanding 22-3 home record and are 37-11 for the season. The visiting Mavericks have a 14-7 record on the road and a 33-15 overall record.
They have met once this season in November in Dallas and the Mavericks squeaked out an 89-87 victory. Dallas has won seven of their last 10 games while the Celtics have won eight of the last ten. Let’s preview the teams and then check out the odds from Centrebet to make our prediction.
The Boston Celtics have five players in double digits in scoring and a sixth player knocking on the door. Paul Pierce leads the team in scoring average at 19.1 per game. He is a complete player with 5 assists, shoots 85% from the free throw line and cans 51% from the field. He is followed by guard Ray Allen at 17.3 points per game, averages 4 rebounds and shoots 51% field goal accuracy.
Kevin Garnett, center, grabs 8.9 boards per game and scores 15 points per game. He is a 53% field goal shooter. Glen Davis grabs over 5 boards per game and scores at a 12.1 points per game clip. Rajon Rondo dishes out the ball to his teammates as he has 463 assists in his 48 games played. Big Shaquille O’Neal, no longer a starter, chips in with 9 points per game.
Jason Kidd is a spot starter for the Mavericks as he has dished out 403 assists this season and is the primary ball hawk on defense. Leading the team on the offensive side of the game is Dirk Nowitzki. He averages 23.2 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds and shoots 88% from the charity stripe. Guard Jason Terry dials in 15.5 points per game and fires in shots at a 44% from the field.
Caron Butler averages 15 points but he is injured and will be unable to play in the game. Shawn Marion has an 11.3 point average and rebounds 6.4 shots per game. He is a very poor 3-point shooter at 15%. Tyson Chandler rounds out the team with his 9 rebounds per game to go with the 10 points scored average.
Pick and Prediction
Boston will cover the spread courtesy of Centrebet. Let me tell you why. The Celtics seldom lose at home. They are an offensive team that has many weapons to use for scoring. The can score in tranistion with Rondo and Allen or they can fire from outside with Paul Pierce or go inside the lane for Kevin Garnett. The Mavericks will be hurting without Caron Butler plus they have no one to match Garnett or Shaquille O’Neal. The odds for the game from Centrebet are Celtics -6.5. Our prediction is for the Boston Celtics to cover that going away.
Our pick: Bet Celtics -6.5 from Centrebet
