Game: Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Date/Time: Monday May 9th, 2011 / 5:30am AEST
The back-to-back National Basketball Association champions are in big trouble. The Los Angeles Lakers are down 3-0 to the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the Western Conference. The Mavericks picked up a big win in game three, while trailing most of the way. The Lakers and Mavericks had identical records in the regular season; with Los Angeles getting the tiebreaker for the second seed. The winner of this series will take on either Oklahoma City or Memphis in the Western Conference Finals.
Dallas Mavericks Overview:
The Dallas Mavericks have one of the best playoff performers in recent postseason history. Dirk Nowitzki scored 32 points and 9 rebounds in the game three win, along with several late assists that led the daggers. The Mavericks used five games in the postseason to upend the sixth seeded Portland Trailblazers.
Dallas has been a playoff contender for years now. After winning 67 games in the 2006 – 2007 season, Dallas won 51, 50 and 55 the next three years. This season, the Mavericks finished the regular season with 57 wins. Dallas scored 100.2 points per game, to rank 11th in the league, while their defense allowed 96 points per game.
Los Angeles Lakers Overview:
The champions cannot seem to get things figured out. With a lead late in the game in the third game, the Mavericks took bad shots, turned the ball over, and played shaky defense. The Lakers cannot seem to get good games out of both their big men Will Bynum and Pao Gasol. Bynum scored 21 points and ripped down 10 rebounds in the game three loss.
During the regular season, Kobe Bryant was once again the main man. Bryant scored 25.3 points per game. The Lakers as a team ranked 9th in the NBA with 101.5 points per game. Los Angeles also had a pretty good season on defense, as they ranked 8th, allowing 95.4 points per game.
Mavericks/Lakers Pick and Prediction:
The Lakers cannot get swept, can they? There is no reason to think that the Lakers will come away with a win, in a series in which they have been outplayed most of the way. The Lakers will play well for awhile, and look to be on life support, but in the end, Dirk Nowitzki and his teammates will come through with the win. The Mavericks are -2.5, and we are betting them to beat the Los Angeles Lakers and eliminate them.
Our pick: Dallas Mavericks -2.5 over Los Angeles Lakers. Bet the Mavericks at Centrebet.
