NBA Betting – New Orleans Hornets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Pick

Mon, Jan 24, 5:17pm by Kevin Pitstock

The New Orleans Hornets will host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday Night. These two teams both appear to be heading to the postseason, and may possible square off with each other. The Hornets are currently fifth in the Western Conference, while the Thunder holds the three seed. These two teams have played twice thus far in the regular season; the first time coming on November 29th when the Thunder came away with a 95-89 win at home. They turned around and played on December 10th in New Orleans, once again the Thunder coming away with a win. On February 2nd, these two teams will play for the final time in the regular season, in Oklahoma City.  Before we get to our sports betting tip for this game, lets preview the tips a little closer.

Hornets Overview

The home team, New Orleans Hornets are coming into the game with an eight game winning streak. The Hornets came away with a big win over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. That win came one night after blowing out the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. The wins for New Orleans pushed them into a second place tie with the Dallas Mavericks in the Southeast Division. The Hornets are the top defensive team in the league; allowing just 91 points per game. Point guard Chris Paul has been the leader on both sides of the ball, averaging just under 10 assists per game, and 3 steals. David West is the Hornets leading scorer, pouring in 19 points per game.

Thunder Overview

The Oklahoma City Thunder are also coming off a thrilling win. Kevin Durant buried a three point shot at the buzzer to down the New York Knicks on Saturday night. Durant finished the game with 30 points on the night. On the season, the former Texas Longhorns star is averaging 28.3 points per game. The win for Oklahoma City snapped their losing streak and pushed them to 1.5 games ahead of the Utah Jazz for the Northwest Division lead. The Thunder are seeking their second straight winning season. Last year, Oklahoma City won 50 games. The previous two seasons combined, Oklahoma City won just 43 games.

Our Pick & Prediction

The home team has an advantage in this one and the betting odds have New Orleans favored by 4 points. The home crowd will be rocking, with the current hot streak they are playing on. Also, with one of the games stars coming into their arena look for the energy to be high. Can Kevin Durant give the Thunder enough to compete?  We like Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets to come away with a nice home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The line at sportingbet is Hornets -4. We expect them to cover that, winning the game by 8+ points.
