Game: San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Date/Time: Thursday April 21st, 2011 / 11:30am AEST
The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies will play their second of a best-of-seven series in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The top seeded Spurs will look to pick up their first win of the series, after Memphis pulled off a big upset in the first game.
San Antonio Spurs Overview:
The San Antonio Spurs were the top team out of the Western Conference all season long. San Antonio had the top record in all of the NBA until the final day when Chicago won to claim the overall #1 seed. The Spurs finished four games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks in the Southwest Division. San Antonio had the best home record in the league; winning 35 of 41 games.
The Spurs were led in scoring throughout the season by Mano Ginobili. Ginobili scored just under 18 points per game, while point guard Tony Parker scored 17.5 points per game. Ginobili has been banged up, and did not play in game one, and is questionable for game two. The Spurs scored 103.7 points per game and allowed 98 on the season.
Memphis Grizzlies Overview:
The Memphis Grizzlies were tickled to death to win the first game on the road. Memphis will look to keep that momentum going in game two. The Grizzlies finished the regular season tied with New Orleans, but the Hornets held the tiebreaker over Memphis. The Grizzlies struggled most of the season on the road; winning just 16 of 41 games.
Memphis scored just shy of 100 points per game as a team. Zach Randolph was the big time scorer for the Grizzlies; scoring 20.1 points per game, and also 12.2 rebounds per game. Randolph had a huge game one; scoring 25 points and grabbing 143 rebounds. Memphis lost one of their top scorers Rudy Gay to a season ending injury mid-way through the season. The Grizzlies are in the postseason winning winning 22,22,24 and 40 games the past four seasons.
Spurs/Grizzlies Pick and Prediction:
We expect this to be pretty competitive throughout. Late in the game, the veteran presence of the Spurs will come through and push this to a double digit margin for the Spurs. While this will be a great series, the Grizzlies are not ready to win two straight games on the road. We are pretty confident in our pick of the San Antonio Spurs -8.5 over the Memphis Grizzlies.
