Game: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Date/Time: Thursday March 10th, 2011 / 10:00am AEST
On Thursday morning, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to host the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 76ers and Thunder both appear to be heading to the postseason, as Philadelphia is 7th in the Eastern Conference, while the Thunder have the fourth best record in the Western Conference.
The 76ers went to Oklahoma City back in the first two weeks of the season, with the Thunder coming away with a 109-103 win, after Kevin Durant scored 31 points. Philadelphia and Oklahoma City will not meet again this season, unless they meet up in the National Basketball Association Finals.
Philadelphia 76ers Overview:
Philadelphia comes into the game as winners of three straight games. On Sunday, Philadelphia beat the Golden State Warriors at home, while they went to Indiana Tuesday night and came away with a win. The 76ers have climbed to within 1/2 game of the New York Knicks for sixth place in the Eastern Conference, and second in the Atlantic Division.
The 76ers are led in scoring by Elton Brand and his 15.3 points per game. Brand is also the 76ers top rebounder, as he is ripping down nearly 9 rebounds per game. Philadelphia is scoring 99.2 points per game, while allowing 97.2. In the last five seasons the 76ers have only toppped out at 41 wins, so this season needs to finish with a 9-10 record to top that.
Oklahoma City Thunder Overview:
The Oklahoma City Thunder are coming off their tough loss to Memphis on Monday Night. In the loss, Russell Westbrook scored 27 points for the Thunder. Oklahoma City is led by the NBA’s leading scorer Kevin Durant. Durant is pouring in nearly 29 points per game, while big man Serge Ibaka is grabbing 8.2 rebounds per game. The Thunder come into the game three games ahead of the Denver Nuggets in the Northwest Division.
The Thunder won 50 games last season, so with a 11-9 record, they will match that mark. The Thunder hope to win the division, so they can garner the third seed in the Western Conference.
Philadelphia is playing really good basketball, and they are looking to make their way up the Eastern Conference ladder. The Thunder have struggled a bit with the nagging injury of Kevin Durant. The 76ers will have a tough time slowing down Durant and Westbrook, if he is healthy.
Look for this game to be close, but we are going to take the Oklahoma City Thunder as the one point underdog in this game.
Our pick: Oklahoma City Thunder +1 over the Philadelphia 76ers. Bet the Thunder at IASBET.
