The Big East will feature a great Sunday afternoon game featuring the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Connecticut Huskies. This is the first and only time these two teams will get together this season, unless they meet in the Big East Tournament, which takes place at the Madison Square Garden.
Cinncinnati is 22-6 overall and 9-6 in Big East play. The Bearcats are currently in sixth place in the conference. Connecticut is tied with West Virginia and Marquette for ninth place. The Huskies are 8-7 in Big East play, and 20-7 overall.
Cincinnati Bearcats Overview
The Bearcats with their three straight wins have possibly sealed their deal into the 2011 NCAA Tournament. If they are still on the bubble, this would certainly be a marquee win. The Bearcats have won recent games over Louisville, Providence and Georgetown. The last time Cincinnati lost was on February 13th to the Storm of St. John’s.
Dion Dixon and Yancy Gates are the top two threats for Cincinnati on the offensively side. Dixon is scoring 11.3 points per gmae, while Gates adds 11.1 and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Bearcats have won two national titles in the history of the school. The last time was in 1962.
Connecticut Huskies Overview
Jim Calhoun and his Huskies would like to find an answer to their recent slump. The Huskies lost back-to-back games at Louisville, and then at home to Marquette. Kimba Walker started the season as a gang buster, but has been slowed down more recently. Still on the season, Walker is scoring 23 points per game. The Huskies as a team are scoring 73.4.
Connecticut came into this week ranked #14 in the most recent Associated Press Poll. The Huskies have been to the Final Four 3 times in their 29 tournament appearances. Connecticut holds a 46-28 record in NCAA tournament games. The Huskies have a road game at West Virginia and a home game with Notre Dame left on their 2011 regular season slate.
Cincinnati vs. Connecticut Prediction
Games inside the Big East are always a load of fun. This one will be no different. Both of these teams would love to improve their status in the Big East Standings, and Cincinnati is still looking to tack wins onto their resume. The Huskies will still be smarting a bit as they are coming off a loss.
Look for this game to be an up and down game. Kimba Walker will be able to get his points in this game. When it comes down to it, the home environment will hope up. Cincinnati is -3.5 according to Sportsbet. We like the Bearcats to win this game by closer to 10 points.
Our pick: Bet the Cincinnati Bearcats -3.5 at Sportsbet!
