Game: Duke Blue Devils vs. North Carolina Tar Heels
Date/Time: Monday March 14th, 2011 /
The Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels will get together for the third time this season. The first two games, North Carolina led the game most of the way, but came away with just one win. The Tar Heels won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title, but just a game over Duke.
This is just the tenth time these two teams have met in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. There has been no nail biting, close finish games in the history, so fans all over the country are begging for that to happen. It appears the winner of the game has a shot at a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, while the loser will most likely garner a #2 seed.
North Carolina Overview:
The Tar Heels have had to come from behind to down both Miami and Clemson to reach the title game. In the win over Clemson, Harrison Barnes scored a career high 40 points, to lead UNC to an overtime win. Barnes and Tyler Zeller were the main offensive threats for the Tar Heels, combining for nearly 35 points per game.
North Carolina has been one of the hottest teams in the country; getting off to a slow non-conference start, but heating up to win the conference title. The Tar Heels were the best rebounding team in the nation, grabbing nearly 43 rebounds per game as a team.
The Blue Devils, after getting a scare in the win over Maryland, seeing their leading scorer Nolan Smith go down with an ankle injury. Smith returned to the lineup in Saturday’s win over the Virginia Tech Hokies, as he scored 27 points. Him and Kyle Singler were the leading scorers for the Blue Devils, combining for over 38 points per game.
Duke is coming off a national championship last season, beating Butler in the title game. In school history, the Blue Devils have been to the Final Four 15 times, and won four national titles. Duke is scoring 81.4 points per game as a team this season, which is 9th in all of college basketball.
North Carolina/Duke Pick:
In the biggest rivalry in college basketball, there will be a ton of viewers watching this game. This game means alot for the tournament committee, and of course bragging rights in the state of North Carolina. The Blue Devils, if Smith is 100% healthy have the advantage at the guard position. North Carolina will look to use Barnes and Zeller to their advantage and pound the basketball inside. Look for Duke to hit plenty of three point shots in this one. We like Duke to win this game by 5 points.
Our pick: Duke Blue Devils -3.5 over the North Carolina Tar Heels. Bet the Duke Blue Devils at Sportingbet.
