Choose Your Free Spins Bonus in this Revamped Classic Game
Queen of the Nile 2 has had a major graphics upgrade since the original machine was released. Not only does it look better, it is available as a mobile pokie – as well as in bars and online. Symbols now spin over static parchment reels, giving a slightly 3D effect. You’ll hear the Queen of the Nile herself when the bonus game kicks-in – though the music playing while you spin is gone.
What Gifts can Cleopatra Bestow on You?
The main difference between Queen of the Nile 2 and the original comes at the start of the bonus feature. Here are the highlights:
As in the first version of this game, you need to get at least 3 of the pyramid symbols anywhere in view to trigger the bonus. These have scatter wins too. If you get all 5, then 100 times your total bet amount will be paid. There are no additional free spins for hitting 4 or 5.
Before the spins start, you’ll see a new screen with 4 pyramids showing. Cleopatra will then invite you to choose one of them.
Here is what they say:
If you are an experienced poker machine player, you’ll know that over time the outcomes will be the same. What you are choosing here is whether you go for some big hits – or have more spins with more smaller wins.
Note that the Cleopatra symbols double wins in both the base game and the free spins. This means that you can effectively get multipliers of up to 20x with the 5 free spins option.
You can retrigger (for the same number of spins and multipliers you picked) with 3+ of the bonus pyramid symbols. You’ll also get 3x on those scatter wins!
There are 25 win-lines, more than the 20 lines of the original. You can choose fewer, though this should balance with having fewer opportunities to get doubled wins from the wilds. Bets start at just 1c per line – online these can go very high.
To balance the greater number of win-lines, individual wins are smaller than on the first game. Over time, your results will not be too different.
Cleopatra is again the wild symbol. This will substitute for the regular winning symbols listed below. When one or more wilds are involved in a win, you get double the amount listed.
A glittering gold pharaoh’s mask is the next highest paying symbol. This is worth 750 coins for 5 of a kind without the wild. That prize is shared by the golden bracelet, with both these symbols (and the wilds) paying from 2 of a kind from the left.
Next comes a golden scarab beetle, worth 400 coins for 5. This is followed by the eye of Ra and a flower design (each worth 250 coins max).
Some distinctly non-Egyptian playing card symbols complete the line-up.
This pokie looks a lot better than the original. Behind the reels is a blue coloured wall, showing Egyptian hieroglyphics. The scrolls on the back of the reels stay in place while the reels spin. Symbols are brighter and clearer than on the original version. Aristocrat has made the gold shine on this version – with the scarab and mask both standing out.
No atmospheric music this time – though it seems Aristocrat have taken a leaf out of IGT’s book, including some voice over effects when you choose your free spins bonus. Overall the production quality is high, and the mobile version (with a button on the right, not below the reels) works great.
This is a real upgrade from the original Queen of the Nile. Mobile compatibility is a big plus, and overall the graphics and animations are a lot smoother. I like the ability to choose the number of free spins. If you are having a winning session, you’ll get the shot at those 10x (or 20x with a wild) multipliers!
