Three of the premiership favourites now fill the top three positions on the table. Melbourne Victory ($5.00) Sydney FC ($6.00) and Adelaide United ($6.50) occupy spots one, two and three respectively, with seven points each.
Wellington Phoenix ($19) and Perth Glory ($9.00) are one point behind the top trio, with the Central Coast Mariners ($13) rounding out the top six on three points.
Melbourne City has only managed two competition points from its three outings, yet remains heavily supported on the third line of premiership betting at $6.50.
The only two teams yet to register any points are last year’s grand finalists, the Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers. The Roar are now out to $10, while the Wanderers have also drifted to $9.00.
The Wanderers and Mariners still have a match-in-hand after the deferment of their Round 3 clash. The Wanderers will also have this week off, playing their scheduled match with the Brisbane Roar in early December.
We had a successful week on the tip last week, snaring three of the four results including tipping Adelaide United to win by exactly two goals at $5.60.
AustralianGambling.com.au now seeks out all the best odds for all Round 4 matches in the preview below – we give our exact predictions (how many goals our pick will win by), and thoroughly recommend registering accounts with multiple bookies to give yourself every opportunity to cash in on any price anomalies.
7:40pm, Friday 31st October at AAMI Park
The round opens with the match of the week. High flying Adelaide United travels to Victoria looking to keep its position in the top three while Melbourne City attempts to force its way into the top six.
City were completely out-gunned last week in a 5-2 loss to cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory. They will need to improve sharply to compete with the Reds who are shaping up as one of the teams to beat this season. David Villa, who’s short tenure at City ends this week, will be keen to taste victory in an A-League match for the first time, but that hunger might not be enough.
The Reds were methodical in their 2-0 disposal of the previously undefeated Perth Glory last week. They are looking a formidable force this season and are good enough to come away with three points from this road trip. They have a great record against Melbourne City with five wins to two and it should continue here. The Reds are great value at $2.96 with BetEasy.
Prediction – Adelaide by one goal @ $4.60 with BetEasy (better than $4.50 with Sportsbet).
7:30pm, Saturday 1st November at NIB Stadium
The Perth Glory head back to their base in the golden west on Saturday afternoon hoping to bounce back from their first loss of the season. They take on the Newcastle Jets who have struggled so far in early games.
The Glory were outgunned by Adleiade United in a 2-0 loss last week. Prior to that, their form had been solid and they give the impression that they are going to take a power of beating at home this season. Perth has won seven of its last eight encounters with Newcastle which has to count for something.
The Jets were hammered 4-1 in New Zealand by the Wellington Phoenix last Sunday afternoon. They have managed just one draw from three outings and this game is going to provide a stern test for them. They are well and truly overdue for a win in Perth after nine long seasons without one but the drought looks set to continue.
Prediction – Perth by one goal @ $3.55 with BetEasy (better than $3.50 with Sportsbet).
5:00pm, Sunday 2nd November at Allianz Stadium
This should be a super match with the old master v apprentice scenario in place in the coaching ranks. Sydney FC’s mentor Graham Arnold not only takes on his old club in the Central Coast Mariners, but also faces off against his long time friend Phil Moss who he actually brought to the club four seasons ago.
Sydney FC travelled to Queensland last week and got the job done with a 2-0 win over the Brisbane Roar. The team has looked a slick outfit this season and has no excuses not to win in front of its home crowd.
The Mariners return from a week off with a win and a loss to their name so far this season. They will be eager to atone for their 2-1 loss at home to the Wellington Phoenix a fortnight ago but face some quality opposition here.
Prediction – Sydney FC by two goals @ $5.30 with BetEasy (better than $5.00 with Sportsbet).
7:30pm, Monday 3rd November at AAMI Park
The round closes out with an intriguing match in Melbourne on Monday night. The seemingly unstoppable Victory host the Wellington Phoenix, a team who has already sprung some surprises in 2014/15. Add to that some injury concerns for the Victory and this one just may be closer than you think.
Victory coach Kevin Muscat will be reaching for the paracetamol this week with fitness clouds and suspensions throwing his team into disarray.
Big guns Besart Berisha, Archie Thompson and Matthieu Delpierre are all in doubt for this game while Adrian Leijer and Daniel Georgievski are both suspended. It will be a true test of the Victory’s depth should all of those players be absent and it is worth looking at final team selections before investing.
The Phoenix have shown in the last two weeks they may have been underrated heading into this season. A 1-0 away win over the Central Coast Mariners was followed by a 4-1 drubbing of the Newcastle Jets at home last week.
They could well smell blood in the water given the Victory’s injury concerns and loom as the dark horse of the week.
Prediction – Draw @ $3.90 with Sportsbet (better than $3.70 with BetEasy).
