The Victory defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 4-1 and have been wound in to $5 premiership favourites with BetEasy on the back of the dominant display.
Their crosstown rivals, Melbourne City are on the second line of betting at $5.50 after they drew 1-1 with Sydney FC last weekend.
Sydney FC, Adelaide United and the Brisbane Roar all occupy the next tier of betting at $6.50.
Adelaide could not have asked for a better start to its season when they knocked off the defending premiers, the Brisbane Roar, away from home.
Other week one winners were the Perth Glory ($8.50) and the Central Coast Mariners ($14).
Week two of the season features the blockbuster Sydney derby clash between Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers which is expected to attract a sellout crowd.
AustralianGambling seeks out all the best odds for any of the selections in the preview below. It is worth having multiple accouts to cash in on any price anomolies available.
Let’s take a look at all five Round Two matches:
7:40pm, Friday 17th October at Adelaide Oval
Punters may be able to get an early gauge on how serious the Melbourne Victory’s premiership credentials really are when they travel to Adelaide on Friday night.
They will face an Adelaide side which was outstanding in the opening round when it won 2-1 against the defending premiers, the Brisbane Roar. This week it will be buoyed by a huge home crowd at the Adelaide Oval who should lift their team against the title favourites.
The Victory were ultra impressive in Round One when they defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 4-1 and emphasised just how potent their goal scoring prowess will be this season. The four-pronged attack featuring Besart Berisha, Archie Thompson, Guy Finkler and Kosta Barbarouses is likely to give the home team plenty of headaches in this one.
Prediction – Melbourne Victory by one goal @ $2.96 with BetEasy
5:30pm, Saturday 18th October at Bluetongue Stadium
The Central Coast Mariners get their opportunity to remain undefeated after two matches when they host competition outsiders the Wellington Phoenix on Saturday afternoon.
The Mariners snuck home in the F3 Derby last week when Mitchell Duke found the back of the net in the 90th minute to sink the Newcastle Jets 1-0. If they intend on being genuine title contenders this season, they should be saluting in this encounter.
The Wellington Phoenix lost their opening round clash 2-1 to the Perth Glory at home despite dominating possession for large portions of the match. They showed glimpses of ability but made some vital errors in that match which they will need to correct here if they are to compete.
Prediction – Mariners by one goal @ $1.80 with Sportingbet.
7:30pm, Saturday 18th October at Allianz StadiumA packed house will witness the Western Sydney Wanderers attempt to bounce back after their heavy Round One defeat when they take on Sydney FC in the Sydney Derby.
Sydney FC went close to defeating Melbourne City last week before a David Villa goal saw the points shared for the match which finished at 1-1. Over 40,000 fans will jam into Allianz Stadium and Sydney will be keen to impress.
Western Sydney Wanderers coach Tony Popovic strengthened his squad this week by signing attacker Nikita Rukavytsya who returns after a stint in Germany. The Wanderers leaked four goals last week but this game should tell us if there is a genuine defensive issue or if they just met a hot Melbourne Victory team in that 4-1 defeat.
Prediction – Draw @ $3.35 with Sportsbet.
3:00pm, Sunday 19th October at AAMI Park
Spain’s all-time leading goal scorer David Villa could well be elevated to Melbourne City’s starting line-up this week when they play host to the Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park.
Villa scored to salvage a draw for City against Sydney FC last week and it is only a matter of time before he is a part of the run-on team. City have only managed one win from their last four clashes with the Jets but will head into this as short priced elects and are expected to get the chocolates.
The Newcastle Jets are already $21 outsiders for the title in 2014/15 and gave punters no reason to alter their thoughts after the opening round of the season.
The Jets went down 1-0 to the Central Coast Mariners after a 90th minute Mitchell Duke goal sunk the Novocastrians. They look up against it here.
Prediction – Melbourne City by two goals @ $1.74 with BetEasy (Better than $1.65 with Sportsbet).
5:00pm, Sunday 19th October at NIB Stadium
The Perth Glory return home this week looking to carry on the momentum of their surprise 2-1 away win over the Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand in the opening round. This week they host the Brisbane Roar and are likely to find the defending champions a much tougher opponent.
The Glory hung in against the Phoenix despite being outplayed for the bulk of the match. Yet when an opportunity presented itself in the 86th minute, they were able to seal the deal via a goal to Jamie MacLaren. This match should provide a much better insight into the Perth sides credentials.
The Brisbane Roar’s title defence did not start as they would have liked when they suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Adelaide United last week. The news does not get any better for the Brisbane based outfit this week with Matt McKay’s 72nd-minute red card meaning he will be absent for this clash. The trip to Perth is never easy, but if the Roar are hoping to go back-to-back, they will be expecting to win this one.
Prediction – Brisbane Roar by one goal @ $2.62 with Sportsbet.
