Week 7 of the 2017-18 Hyundai A-League season featured only four matches as Western Sydney’s clash with Wellington was postponed due to poor pitch conditions at Spotless Stadium.
Despite not featuring this weekend, both teams have seen their odds of winning the 2017-18 title shorten.
Western Sydney are in from $9 to $7.50 and Wellington are in from $91 to $67.
On Thursday night, Adelaide United were able to steal a win late against Central Coast.
After such a positive result less than a week ago, the Mariners came crashing down and will be very disappointed to not have secured at least a point from the match.
The result has seen Central Coast’s outright odds drift out to $76 from $61 a week ago.
This week Adelaide will contest the FFA Cup final against Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium, looking to win the cup for the second time in their history.
Adelaide’s outright odds were bolstered by last weekends win, with their odds in from $23 to $19 at Sportsbet.
On Friday night, an undermanned Melbourne City team was humbled by Brisbane Roar.
The Roar grabbed their first win of the new season after seven weeks, with a 3-1 win against a poor City team.
After scoring in the first five minutes thanks to a Eugene Galekovic error in goal, Brisbane Roar were barely threatened all match and doubled their advantage just before half time.
City striker Ross McCormack did not travel with the team to Brisbane. City were also without Tim Cahill and lacked considerable goal scoring prowess without that duo.
City’s outright odds have drifted from $4 to $4.50 with their most recent result. Brisbane Roar has shortened from $34 to $23.
On Saturday night, a rain soaked Allianz Stadium saw Sydney FC hold off a gallant Newcastle Jets team 2-1.
Sydney led 2-0 before Newcastle pegged a goal back mid way through the second half, setting up a tense final 25 minutes.
The conditions on the night were not conducive to free flowing, attacking football, as Newcastle were unable to find a breakthrough to draw the game.
With Sydney FC back to winning ways after a hiccup against Central Coast a week ago, their outright odds have once again shortened to $2.40 from $2.60.
$2.40 to win the 2017-18 A-League represents the shortest odds Sydney FC have been all season.
Newcastle has remained steady at $9 at Sportsbet after their loss to reigning champions.
Melbourne Victory travelled to Perth seeking their first win of the new season and managed just that with a 2-0 win against Glory.
A pair of second half goals to Victory set up the win, as Perth looked fatigued in the second stanza.
Punters have stuck by Melbourne Victory all season in outright betting, despite their lackluster results.
Three points in Perth has seen Victory’s outright odds move into $6 from $6.50 last week with Sportsbet. They are the third best-supported side to win the competition behind Sydney FC and Melbourne City.
Perth’s poor run of form continues, out from $11 to $14 after successive losses.
A-League Outright Odds
Sydney FC $2.40
Melbourne City $4.50
Melbourne Victory $6
Western Sydney Wanderers $7.50
Newcastle Jets $9
Perth Glory $14
Adelaide United $19
Brisbane Roar $23
Wellington Phoenix $67
Central Coast Mariners $76
