THIS is a collision of polar-opposites: a team in eighth position who have not lost a match in five weeks, up against the second-placed side who have mustered just one victory in their past four outings.
Adelaide United have started 2014 exactly where they left off in 2013; on fire.
The peak of that form was last week when they defeated the competition favourites, the Brisbane Roar, 2-1 away from home.
Wins against the Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners have also features in Adelaide’s recent rich vein of form and they are now $13 to win the premiership. The wins were punctuated with draws against Sydney FC and the Glory away in Perth.
While the recent success has not exactly seen Adelaide skyrocket up the ladder, they do now just sit one win away from being in the top six.
As punters, we want to know if this run can continue. It’s hard to argue with the win against the Roar but they play a very different style to this week’s opponent, Western Sydney.
The $4.50 title hopes have not had the greatest month but there is not doubt that they will target this match as one to get their season back on track.
In their short A-League history, the Wanderers have dominated the Adelaide team. They have won three of the four encounters between the two sides, including their clash earlier this season. The positive for Adelaide United is that their one win against the Wanderers occurred at Coopers stadium.
There is no doubt that Adelaide need to improve defensively to defeat the Wanderers. Even in games that Adelaide has won this season, it has had the propensity to concede goals. In all, 20 goals have been scored against Adelaide United in just 14 games. With just three clean sheets. Those clean sheets have all came in their last five matches.
The Wanderers are a much better side defensively on paper, they may have only scored 17 goals this season, but they have only conceded 14. Based on that, they will look to thwart an Adelaide United sides ambition to score goals with United having found the back of the net on 21 occasions this season.
The passing game of Adelaide United has been one of their strengths all season and that will be something that the tenacious Wanderers midfield will look to break-up. If United are allowed to distribute the ball well, it could prove a big difference.
Jeronimo Neumann is the man that the Wanderers will need to shut-down close to goal. The Argentinian striker has found the back of the net five times this season.
The same can be said for Tomi Juric. He scored a double against Adelaide United last time they met so there is no doubt that he is the man that United need to mark closely.

The recent Adelaide United from is undeniably much better than they have produced all season. The win against the Roar emphasised their other recent wins against the Jets and Mariners.
But the Wanderers are a class outfit and I am tipping that that they can find the form that has seen them in second for the bulk of the season again here.
Prediction – Wanderers by one goal.
Adelaide – $3.20
Wanderers – $2.15 head-to-head with IASbet.com
Draw – $3.30
This is my best bet of the match. The Wanderers at better than even money against the side in eighth position on the ladder is too hard to ignore.
Adelaide (+1)- $1.62
Draw (-1) – $3.75 with IASbet.com
Wanderers (-1) – $4.50
Based on the prediction of a one-goal margin. I’d look towards the handicap draw here at $3.75.
Under 2.5 Goals- $1.74
Over 2.5 Goals – $2.00 with IASbet.com
This is a tough market with the sides conceding and scoring about 2.5 goals on average between them per match. I think it is more likely to be over but would bet tentatively.
The Wanderers present some value in the draw no bet market at $1.58.
If you enjoy an investment on the correct score I’d suggest the Wanderers 2-1 which is currently $9.00.
