Week one of the 2018 AFL finals series began on Thursday night, with Richmond toppling Hawthorn by 31 points.
The Tigers are $1.90 to win the flag this season at Sportsbet and will host a preliminary final in a fortnight’s time at the MCG.
Richmond kicked the first two goals of the game, before Hawthorn answered to lead by a point at quarter time.
The Tigers then took control of the match, leading by 14 points at half-time and by 35 points at three-quarter time.
Kamdyn McIntosh and Daniel Rioli each booted three goals for the Tigers, with Jarryd Roughead kicking three for the Hawks.
Hawthorn gets a second chance this weekend when it plays Melbourne and is $21 to win the Premiership.
On Friday night, Melbourne knocked Geelong out of the finals with a 29-point win at the MCG.
The Demons led from the outset, scoring five goals to nil in the first quarter.
In a low-scoring match, the Cats struggled to find the scoreboard, managing only three quarter to three-quarter time. Melbourne’s inaccuracy kept the Cats in the game; with the Demons have 25 scoring shots to 16.
Sam Weideman kicked three goals for the Dees, with Clayton Oliver amassing 30 touches.
Melbourne progress to the semi-finals to take on Hawthorn this weekend and is a $7 shot to win the flag.
Saturday afternoon featured another low-scoring final, with the Greater Western Sydney Giants thumping their nearest rivals the Sydney S wans by 49 points at the SCG.
The Giants kicked away after half-time, as the Swans managed only four goals for the Giants.
If not for the Giants’ inaccuracy in front of goal, Sydney would have surely lost this match by in excess of 10 goals.
The Giants’ 29 scoring shots to 10 highlights their dominance, as they led every statistical measure in the match.
They progress to play Collingwood this weekend and are $13 to win the Premiership.
The final match of the first week of the finals series took play in Perth and saw the West Coast Eagles prevail by 16 points against Collingwood.
The Eagles trailed by 10 points at three-quarter time, but a five goal to one final term got them across the line.
They now get a week off and host a preliminary final at Optus Stadium against either Melbourne or Hawthorn.
The Eagles are $4.50 to win the flag.
Collingwood has earned a second chance and will play the Giants at the MCG on Saturday.
