Round 10 of the 2018 AFL season begins with Collingwood hosting the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.
Saturday’s matches include both Richmond and Geelong looking to bounce back from round 9 losses as they face St Kilda and Carlton respectively.
Collingwood versus Western Bulldogs
Friday, 25 May 2018 at 7.50pm AEST at Etihad Stadium
Collingwood host the Dogs at Etihad Stadium on Friday night in the Pies only home game at Etihad Stadium for the year.
Ironically this home game takes place at the home venue of their opposition, who play their best football under the dome.
The Pies are $1.44 favourites at Sportsbet with the Dogs $2.80 outsiders.
Collingwood has lost its past six matches against the Dogs in home-and-away play, with their last winning coming in 2013.
The Pies will be looking to burst into the top eight with a win this weekend and are 16.5-point favourites in this match.
A last-start win against St Kilda was built on a strong second half showing from Collinwood, who have enjoyed a good upturn in form over the past month.
The Dogs have beaten the teams they were expected to beat this season, including Carlton, Gold Coast and the Brisbane Lions, but struggle against teams above them on the ladder, as last week’s loss to the Crows showed.
The Dogs struggled to kick goals all night, amassing only two for the entire game.
Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey has announced himself as one of the young talents to watch in the AFL, kicking six goals last weekend against the Saints.
The Pies have invested a lot of time both on and off the field with their young forward and he is finally producing in games.
Collingwood will be too strong for the Dogs and should run out comfortable winners in this one.
Best bet- Collingwood Big Win Little Win 1-39 at $2.10
Brisbane versus Sydney
Saturday, 26 May 2018 at 4.35pm AEST at the Gabba
The Lions broke their winless run of eight games last weekend with a huge 56-point win against Hawthorn.
Brisbane now have back-to-back home games as they host Sydney at the Gabba.
The Lions are $3.73 underdogs, with the Swans firm $1.28 favourites at Sportsbet.
The Swans have won the past 10 matches between these two sides dating back to 2010 and enjoyed a narrow three-point win the last time they visited the Gabba in 2016.
Brisbane’s youthful side had been threatening to win a game for a number of weeks and finally broke through with a deserved victory in round 9.
They now face one of the competition favourites and we are predicting a big let down from the young Lions.
Carlton was victorious for the first time this season in round 8 and suffered a 100-point thumping in round 9 against Melbourne.
While the Lions won’t lose by such a margin, the Swans have their measure in every aspect of this match and it’s very hard to envisage a Swans win by less than five goals.
Best bet- Sydney to cover 22.5-point handicap at $1.92
GWS versus Essendon
Saturday, 26 May 2018 at 7.25pm AEST at Spotless Stadium
The GWS Giants have been the most disappointing side through the opening nine rounds of the 2018 season and sit in 11th position on the ladder.
They face an Essendon side who broke through for their first win in over a month last weekend with a 34-point win against Geelong.
The Giants are $1.43 favourites for this match, with the Bombers $2.85 at Sportsbet.
GWS suffered a 43-point loss to North Melbourne in Hobart last round, with the Giants woeful disposal and poor inside 50 efficiency costing them week after week.
Touted as pre-season Premiership favourites, the Giants are appearing to struggle to even make the top eight at the moment, with their pace and crisp ball movement having vanished.
They have scored the fewest goals of any team in the competition this season and barring a round one domination of the Western Bulldogs in Canberra have looked poor for some time now.
It is impossible to justify their favouritism in this match, which must only be for Essendon’s poor interstate record. The Giants have won their past four games against the Bombers, but they are a far poorer side nowadays.
We are tipping an upset and Essendon to continue to heap misery upon the sliding Giants.
Best bet- Essendon Big Win Little Win 1-39 at $3.30
Elsewhere on Saturday, Richmond ($1.07) should have no trouble accounting for the Saints ($8.50) who have only one win this season.
In Geelong, the Cats ($1.05) are the shortest priced favourites of the round to beat the Blues ($10.50) who sit last on the ladder.
