Round 19 of the 2018 AFL season begins on Friday night, with the Bombers hosting the Swans at Etihad Stadium.
The match of the round takes place on Saturday afternoon, when the Tigers host the Pies in a clash of two teams in the top four.
Essendon versus Sydney
Friday, 27 July 2018 at 7.50pm AEST at Etihad Stadium
Essendon are winners of four of their past five matches, with their only loss in that span coming against the red-hot Pies.
The Dons are $1.78 favourites to beat the Swans on Friday night, with Sydney priced as $2.05 outsiders.
Essendon did enough to topple the Dockers last Saturday, but wayward kicking cost them a percentage boosting win. The Bombers booted 21 behinds and won the game by 29 points, but it could have been much more.
Sydney suffered an embarrassing loss at home to the lowly Gold Coast Suns in round 18.
The Swans kicked six of the first seven goals in the match, only to be held goalless in the second and third quarters.
Sydney’s loss as $1.02 favourites is the biggest upset since betting records were kept in 1995.
The Swans have an imposing record against the Bombers, winning the past eight matches between the teams.
Essendon’s last victory was a one-point win in a thriller in 2011.
The Bombers are playing for their finals lives, while the Swans will want to bounce back from a horror loss.
At home, Essendon are playing the better football and should win a close match.
Best bet- Essendon Big Win Little Win 1-39 at $2.40
Richmond versus Collingwood
Saturday, 28 July 2018 at 1.45pm AEST at the MCG
First plays third on the ladder on Saturday afternoon with the Tigers host the Pies at the MCG.
Richmond are $1.46 favourites and justifiably so. The reigning Premiers are yet to be defeated the MCG this season, with their only losses coming interstate.
Collingwood are $2.75 outsiders to win the match and bounced back from a disappointing loss against the Eagles to record a dominant 66-point win against North last weekend.
Richmond have won five of the past six matches between these two teams, with the Pies most recent victory, a one-point win in round two, 2016.
The Pies youthful defence will be soundly tested in this match, with the Tigers possessing one of the most potent forward lines in the AFL.
Against the Eagles, the Pies struggled against a tandem of tall forwards in Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling, so look for Damien Hardwick to test one of Collingwood’s weaknesses.
Of the two teams, Richmond are the more likely to blow the game apart, which takes the line of 15.5-points out of the question from a value perspective.
Collingwood will want to put in a solid performance in front of what is tipped to be a crowd of over 90,000 people.
Richmond are too polished across the park and should win this match by two to three goals.
Best bet- Richmond Big Win Little Win 1-39 at $2.10
Adelaide versus Melbourne
Saturday, 28 July 2018 at 7.40pm AEST at the Adelaide Oval
Two sides which had contrasted results in round 18 clash on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.
The Crows are $1.78 home favourites when they host the Demons, who are priced at $2.05.
Melbourne lost a heartbreaker to the Cats in Geelong after the siren. A Zach Tuohy goal was a dagger to the Melbourne heart, after leading the match by four goals at three-quarter-time.
In Brisbane, the Crows held on for a narrow five point win against an improving Brisbane Lions team.
Captain Taylor Walker is back for this match for Adelaide after serving a one-game suspension, with the Crows needing a win to stay in touch with the top eight.
These two teams met in Alice Springs in round 10 this season, when Melbourne handed Adelaide a 15-goal loss.
The Crows were lethargic and chasing the game from the outset after conceding five goals in the first ten minutes of the match.
The Dees will be looking for a win to push for a top four position, so there is plenty at stake in this match.
Adelaide are yet to consistently prove they are a team worthy of backing as favourites, so the Dees are underdogs are again an enticing proposition.
Best bet- Melbourne to win at $2.05
The Cats ($1.18) will be looking for back-to-back wins when they host the Lions ($4.95) in Geelong on Saturday.
GWS ($1.13) are making a late charge for a top-four berth and host St Kilda ($6.05) in the Saturday twilight game.
On Saturday night, 17th plays 18th when the Suns ($1.35) host the Blues ($3.25) at Metricon Stadium.
