Round 9 of the 2018 AFL season continues on Sunday with three matches, headlined by the top of the table clash between West Coast and Richmond.
Carlton versus Melbourne
Sunday, 20 May 2018 at 1.10pm AEST at the MCG
Carlton finally got off the mark this season with a hard-fought win against Essendon last weekend.
The Blues are not being given much chance of notching back-to-back wins as they are $5.50 underdogs against Melbourne on Sunday afternoon.
The Demons have won three games in a row, all against lowly opposition, but they looked to have regained their mojo after a poor start to the season.
Matches between these two sides have been low-scoring in recent times, with Melbourne winning the last two encounters by under four goals.
The Demons are 33.5-point favourites for this match, a margin they have covered with ease in their past three matches.
Carlton are arguably a worse football team than Gold Coast and St Kilda, teams which the Demons beat by more than this opening line.
Despite Carlton’s win last weekend, they won’t offer too many problems to a Melbourne side that can break into the top four with a win on Sunday.
The Dees should get the job done by a big margin at their favourite ground, the MCG.
Best bet- Melbourne Big Win Little Win 40+ at $2.10
Brisbane versus Hawthorn
Sunday, 20 May 2018 at 3.20pm AEST at the Gabba
New Lions recruit Luke Hodge faces his old side for the first time on Sunday afternoon when Brisbane host Hawthorn.
The winless Lions start as $3 underdogs, despite producing two promising performances over the last fortnight and losing narrowly.
The Hawks will be disappointed with losing to an undermanned Swans side last Friday night.
They now have a 10-day turnaround before this match and are $1.41 favourites.
Hawthorn have won their past nine games against the Lions, with their last match at the Gabba, an eight-goal win in 2016.
There is no doubt the Lions will be enthusiastic about this match, given the relationship between Hodge and their opponent.
Brisbane have shown good form at home, but will struggle against a more experienced and polished Hawthorn side.
While the opening line of 16.5-points offers some value in backing the Lions, we are keener on the Hawks to get the job done by under six goals.
Best bet- Hawthorn Big Win Little Win 1-39 at $2.10
West Coast versus Richmond
Sunday, 20 May 2018 at 4.40pm AEST at Optus Stadium
One of the games of the season takes place on Sunday twilight when the West Coast Eagles host Richmond.
Both sides go into this match with only one loss each and little separates them in the market, with the Eagles $1.98 underdogs and the Tigers $1.85 favourites for this match.
Richmond have drifted out of games in the second half during the past fortnight, struggling to score in the third quarter.
An undermanned West Coast side defeated the Giants by four goals in a match many predicted them to lose.
The Tigers lost their only road game this season against the Crows in round two and their last win in Perth against the Eagles was in 2014.
Richmond has never played at Optus Stadium, which should provide another challenge for the visitors, given the home ground advantage the Eagles enjoy at the venue, winning four of their five games at the venue this season.
There is good value in taking the home underdog in this match, given the Tigers haven’t been at their sharpest recently.
Best bet- West Coast Big Win Little Win 1-39 at $2.50
