After two rounds of AFLW action we are starting to get an idea of who are the teams to beat and who are the sides that are going to find it tough to see finals action.
The ladder makes interesting reading. We have three sides who are undefeated, two who have split their two games and three who are yet to register a victory.
The undefeated sides Carlton, the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne have set themselves up in a good position for finals given the seven round length of the season.
This is reflected in the outright betting market with Melbourne and Carlton joint favourites to take out the second season of the AFLW with the Bulldogs third favourite at $3.50.
Western Bulldogs v Adelaide Crows
The Doggies kick off Round 3 on Saturday against reigning premiers the Adelaide Crows, who are currently languishing on the bottom of the table with zero wins and an abysmal percentage of 49.4%.
However the Crows have a chance of regaining co-captain and last season’s league best and fairest for this week with Phillips being given every opportunity to return by the club from her strained quadricep injury.
With vice-captain Angela Foley due to miss this week’s fixture from receiving a one week suspension following the Round 2 match with Melbourne and Courtney Cramey still unavailable with her hamstring not yet ready for game time, Phillips’ on-field presence appears vital if they are going to get the win against the in-form Dogs and get their season back on track.
For the Western Bulldogs, they lose number 1 draft pick Isabel Huntington due to a season ending Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, her second ACL tear in the past two years.
Despite the fixture being an Adelaide home game, they are the underdog betting wise at $2.22 with the Bulldogs a $1.67 favourite.
Expect the Dogs to keep up their good form and record a narrow away win against the Crows.
Suggested Bet: Western Bulldogs to win by 1-39 points @ $1.72
Collingwood Magpies v Greater Western Sydney Giants
The Pies and the Giants meet this Sunday afternoon at the Olympic Park Oval with Collingwood keen to record their first victory in what will be their first home game of the season.
Both sides have yet to record a victory this season with the GWS losing at home to Carlton last week and Collingwood failing to take home the points in their away game against Fremantle in front of a record crowd of over 42,000 at Perth’s new Optus Stadium.
Collingwood enter the contest a narrow $1.77 favourite with GWS rated a $2.05 chance head to head
Expect both sides to be hungry to record a win and for it to be a closely fought contest, with the Pies to get up in front of their home fans.
Suggested Bet: Collingwood to win @ $1.77.
