Whilst AFLX may have taken the spotlight last weekend, we were treated to the best round of AFLW action for the season with four terrific games played across Saturday and Sunday.
The results have seen the ladder open right up with the top five teams in the competition all sitting on two wins and one defeat. Sixth and seventh placed Fremantle and Adelaide Crows recorded their first victories over the weekend with Collingwood now the only team in the league yet to taste victory and sit in eighth position.
Round 4 sees four of the 2-1 sides do battle which will provide a guide as to who will see finals action as we reach the midway point in the regular season.
Western Bulldogs v Carlton Blues
Friday night sees the Western Bulldogs play the Carlton Blues in what will be the third Friday night fixture of the season for Carlton in four rounds, which sees the number three and four sides in the competition against each other.
With Carlton’s largely defensive based game being the subject of criticism this season, it will be interesting to see whether they shift their approach heading into this game with the Doggies. After losing comprehensively to the Brisbane Lions last round 18 to 40 in what was their first defeat of the season, this may be required in a clash with one of the more attacking sides in the competition.
The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season in their away fixture against the Adelaide Crows, losing 34 to 41 in an exciting contest.
They enter this round a clear $1.59 favourite against the Blues who are paying $2.38 and look a good bet to win this round and extend their record to 3-1.
Suggested Bet: Western Bulldogs at the line (-6.5) @ $1.90
Brisbane Lions v Fremantle Dockers
The Brisbane Lions and Fremantle Dockers meet on Saturday afternoon in the second clash of the round to feature sides with two wins and one defeat.
The top of the ladder Lions face the number five Dockers who have been a surprise packet this season who are coming off back to back wins.
Both sides were impressive winners on the weekend with the Lions accounting for premiership favourite Carlton by 22 points in an away fixture and the Dockers defeating Melbourne by five points in a thrilling contest in front of their home fans with their scoring accuracy a feature in their six goal and zero behind performance.
Brisbane enter this round’s contest a $1.47 favourite to get the job done at home with Fremantle priced as a $2.71 chance.
Expect Brisbane to continue their run at the top of the table in impressive fashion.
Suggested Bet: Brisbane Lions at the line (-8.5) @ $1.90
Round 4 Odds
