AFLW Round 7: Preview, Odds and Best Bets

Fri, Mar 16, 1:14pm by Staff Writer

The final round of the 2018 AFLW season takes place this weekend, with five teams in the running for four finals positions.

The Western Bulldogs and Melbourne occupy the top two spots on the ladder, with the Dogs ahead thanks to a healthy percentage.

Melbourne have jumped into favouritism to win AFLW at $2.75, with the Dogs close behind at $2.90.

The Giants ($4.25) and Crows ($6.50) are outsiders, with the Lions ($21) needing a win on Friday night against the Giants to make the finals.

GWS and Adelaide both sit just two points behind the Dogs and Dees, who play on Saturday night.

Collingwood, Fremantle and Carlton are out of finals condition, with the match between the Dockers and Blues set to determine who wins the wooden spoon.

The Brisbane Lions blew a golden opportunity to force their way into the top four last weekend, losing to Collingwood by 14 points in treacherous conditions in Brisbane.

They now face a trip to Blacktown to take on the Giants, who are undefeated in five matches.

The Giants brushed aside the Bulldogs last weekend in Canberra and start this match as $1.77 favourites. The Lions are $2.05 outsiders.

Brisbane will be desperate, but we like the Giants to get the job done. The small line of -4.5 for the Giants appeals at $1.90.

On Saturday, the battle of the wooden spoon between Fremantle and Carlton takes place at Fremantle Oval.

Carlton are 5.5-point outsiders and $2.45 in the head-to-head market. The Dockers are $1.56 favourites.

Carlton were easily beaten by Melbourne last weekend, after the Demons kicked six goals to none in the first quarter.

The Dockers battled admirably in Darwin on Friday night, but with that narrow four point loss to the Crows saw their slim finals chances evaporate.

Fremantle should be too good for Carlton in this match and once again, the favourite at the 5.5-point handicap looks good.

The Bulldogs suffered a shock loss last weekend, going down to the Giants by three goals.

They now face a red hot Melbourne team at Whitten Oval in a match that will decide who finishes the season on the top of the ladder.

The home side will start as $1.95 underdogs, with the Demons $1.85 favourites.

Melbourne have been scintillating in recent weeks and besides an uncharacteristically big loss to the Magpies in round 4 have looked a good chance of winning their first AFLW title.

Back Melbourne to narrowly beat the Dogs on Saturday night at $1.85.

Adelaide will be looking to finish the season on a high when they play Collingwood on Sunday afternoon.

The Pies start as $2.25 underdogs, with the Crows the $1.65 favourites. A Brisbane loss on Friday night would assure the Crows of a finals placing, so the pressure may be off Adelaide come game time.

Collingwood will be eager to end their season on a positive note and we are backing them to get an upset victory in round 7.

Take Collingwood to beat Adelaide in the Big Win Little Win 1-39 market at $2.30.
