AFLX: Preview, Odds and Best Bets

Fri, Feb 16, 10:03am by Staff Writer

AFLX has arrived and kicked off last night where six sides competed in a one-night tournament in front of a crowd of 10,253 at Coopers Stadium in Adelaide.

With only seven players per side on field, with three on the bench, 10 minute halves and 10 point super goals and played on a rectangular field, AFLX is designed to be a fast paced high energy brand of Aussie Rules both on and off the ground with DJs, flames and in-game commentary all part of the spectacle.

The AFLX competition sees three one night tournaments take place at three different venues across the country where a different winner will be crowned at the end of each night.

Last night saw Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Geelong, Collingwood, West Coast, and Fremantle do battle with the six sides split into the groups of three teams. Each team plays the two sides in their group before the winner of each group proceeds to the final.

Adelaide and Geelong emerged triumphant in their respective groups before meeting in the final where the Crows defeated the Cats 55-47 to take home the inaugural competition.

Tonight the action will head to Melbourne with the six teams doing battle at Etihad Stadium..

Only Melbourne based clubs will be competing in tonight’s competition which may bode well for strong attendance figures. Carlton, Melbourne, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Essendon and St Kilda will be the teams featured.

Pool A will be comprised of the Blues, Demons and Kangaroos, and Pool B the Hawks, Bombers and Saints.

With the Kangaroos fielding an experienced outfit of players including Shaun Higgins, Majak Daw and Ben Cunnington, they look to match up well against the Melbourne and Carlton sides in their pool and are a good chance for overall glory tonight.

Suggested Bet: North Melbourne (AFLX Melbourne Grand Final Winner) @ $4.50

Tomorrow night, the format heads to Sydney with games scheduled at Allianz Stadium, normally home to the NRL’s Sydney Roosters and A-League’s Sydney FC.

The six teams competing will be Sydney, GWS, Richmond, Brisbane, Gold Coast and the Western Bulldogs,

Pool A will feature the Giants, Tigers and Lions with Pool B comprising the Sun, Swans and Doggies.

Brisbane’s list featuring Tom Bell, Daniel Rich, Mitch Robinson and Rhys Mathieson looks a good squad and having been a cellar dweller in recent AFL seasons would relish the opportunity to take home some silverware.

Suggested Bet: Brisbane Lions (AFLX Sydney Grand Final Winner) @ $4.50
