The Commonwealth Games start next Thursday, however there is one event involving Commonwealth nations taking place this weekend that will have the entire globe’s attention.
The event – a heavyweight boxing world title unification bout between England’s Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20KOs) and New Zealand’s Joshua Parker (24-0, 18KOs) at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on Sunday morning AEST.
The battle of the undefeated heavyweights sees current WBA, IBF and IBO champion Joshua put his title on the line against current WBO champion Parker which will take place in front of a staggering 80,000 strong crowd.
Widely considered the newest megastar in the world of boxing, Joshua will head into Sunday morning’s contest (Saturday night Wales time) an overwhelming $1.17 favourite, with the Kiwi Parker a $5.00 underdog. With both fighters proving to be knockout artists in their respective careers to date, the odds are firmly stacked in favour of a knockout finish to this bout with the ‘will the fight go the distance’ market offering $1.14 for an early finish and $5.00 for it to go the distance.
There is value aplenty if you believe New Zealand’s finest can get the job done. In the ‘method of victory’ market, a win via KO/TKO can get you $7.50 and a win on points or decision $17. Considering Parker’s last three wins have come by decision and Joshua having never had to complete a full fight in the professional arena, a win by decision may appear the more likely of the two options..
However, if you have faith Parker can land that perfect punch or combination to finish things early, there are even bigger odds on the table for you!
There are several round betting options to suit your risk appetite ranging from over / under style round betting to group round betting and individual round betting where the returns available are at their greatest. The grouped and individual round betting options are available for each fighter.
The lowest odds for a Parker win in an individual round are rounds 5 to 8 which can get you $61. A first or twelfth round knockout victory for the New Zealander offers you an astonishing $91.
In comparison, rounds 6 to 8 offer the shortest odds for a knockout win for Joshua at $10 with rounds one and twelve the longest at $23, a remarkable $68 less per dollar than Parker.
With undefeated Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) most likely awaiting the winner later this year to determine the undisputed champion of heavyweight boxing, Joshua-Parker is a mega bout in the world of the sweet science.
2012 Olympic gold medalist Joshua heads into the contest a deserved favourite, possessing a superior record compared to Parker in terms of opposition faced and manner of victory.
However, don’t expect Parker to surrender his title easy. This fight looks set to be taken to deep waters with Joshua taking the victory but not via his conventional route.
Suggested Bet: Anthony Joshua to win by points or decision (method of victory) @ $5.
