Round 8 of the season comes with a midweek treat, ANZAC Day will be play host to two matches with the Dragons hosting the Roosters and the Storm taking on the Warriors. Traditional Anzac services will be held at both games, before rugby league takes centre stage with all four sides pushing for the Premiership.
St George Illawarra Dragons v Sydney Roosters, Wednesday 25th April, 4.10pm, Allianz Stadium
Consistency has been missing from the star-studded Roosters line up this season as they hold a 4-3 record. They come into this match off the back of a brutal defensive effort against Canterbury to secure a 6-0 win. That result highlighted their tenacity in defence, but with an attack featuring Cooper Cronk, Latrell Mitchell and James Tedesco to only be scoring one try is a concern. At $2.15 they enter this clash as underdogs, although they have won the last two match ups against the Dragons.
St George saw their perfect start to the year come to a grinding halt as the Warriors dominated they in New Zealand. Their true Premiership credentials will be severely tested now, as they face the favourites five days after that loss. They stand at $1.73 to bounce back and need to bounce back quickly after that defeat.
Bet of the Match – St George to Win by 1-12 points at $2.88
Melbourne Storm v New Zealand Warriors, Wednesday 25th April, 7pm, AAMI Park
In a change of circumstances, it is the Warriors who come into this Anzac Day meeting as the in-form team flying high joint top of the ladder. With only one loss this season the Warriors are one of several sides to have made this an incredible start to 2018. Fresh off the back of their win over the Dragons, they will be high on confidence, but they will have to be at their best to beat a Storm side slowly finding form. They stand at $2.35.
Melbourne have had an indifferent start to their defence of the Premiership. Two losses to the Tigers as well as one to the Sharks has left them off the pace set by the frontrunners. They have in recent weeks, however, appeared to have rediscovered their form with crucial wins over the Knights and Broncos. The manner of the win in Brisbane will give Storm fans hope that they are back to their best, but they face a stern test against the Warriors on Anzac Day. Priced at $1.62 they are favourites for a clash that they have been very successful in over the years.
