Asia’s premier club football competition is back in action for the third matchday, beginning at midnight on Monday AEDT and concluding 48 hours later.
Monday’s action sees all four Group A teams take the field and given that it’s the tightest group with all four teams on three points apiece, it’s a clutch day for all involved.
Al Ahli ($1.57) of the UAE host Saudi Arabian side Al Taawon ($5) with both looking to bounce back from disappointing defeats and put themselves in a strong position at the halfway point of the group stage.
The other group A match sees Esteghlal ($2) welcome Uzbekistan champions Lokomotiv ($3.50) after the sides recorded their first wins of the competition – against Al Taawoun and Al Ahli respectively – on Matchday Two.
In Monday’s other Group C encounter, Bunyodkor ($2.37) will look to secure their first points of the campaign when they welcome Zobahan ($2.88), who are also in need of a result after collecting just one point from two games to date.
Australia’s Brisbane Roar ($7.50) head to Japan to face the Kashima Antlers ($1.33) after they were trounced 6-0 by Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai on matchday two. The Aussies are yet to score in this competition and are not given much chance of changing that against the Japanese powerhouse.
Speaking of favourites, Shanghai SIPG are starting to flex some muscle in this competition after beating the Wanderers 5-1 in their last game. They are at $2.10 to make it three wins from three when they meet 2007 champions, Urawa Red Diamonds.
This is arguably the pick of the round three matches with Urawa at $3 to upset the Chinese side after also starting their campaign with two wins.
The Wanderers are friendless at $7 when they travel to Korea to play FC Seoul ($1.36). Adelaide United are the only Australian side to play at home in round three but are still outsiders at $4.20 against Korea’s Jeju United ($1.72).
