Note: X means the horse did not race, and 0 means the horse finished 10th or worse.
Quinella: Pick the first two horses to cross the line. The order in which your horses finish does not matter, you simply need them to place in positions one and two.
Exacta: Choose the first two horses to finish the race and determine the exact order in which they cross the line.
Trifecta: Select who the first three thoroughbreds across the finish line will be in the exact order of arrival.
First Four: Be bold and attempt to pick the first four horses to finish the race in their exact order.
Each Way: An each way wager consists of two separate bets: a win bet and a place bet. For the win bet to give you a return, your horse must win. For the place bet to give you a return, your horse must finish first, second or third. You will win both bets if your horse places first.
The previous five Caulfield Cup winners, their barrier, jockey and trainer:
2012: Dunaden (18), Craig Williams, Mikel Delzangles
2011: Southern Speed (4), Craig Williams, Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas
2010: Descarado (15), Chris Munce, Gai Waterhouse
2009: Viewed (15), Brad Rawiller, Bart Cummings
2008: All The Good (8), Kerrin McEvoy, Saeed Bin Suroor
The $4.60 favourite Hawkspur, to be ridden by Jim Cassidy, has drifted slightly in betting after drawing barrier 16, while Royal Descent has been well backed in to second favouritism after drawing barrier three.
Trainer Chris Waller has three of the 18 starters (Hawkspur, Royal Descent and Kelinni). Peter G. Moody has two horses in the race (My Quest For Peace and Manighar), as does Gai Waterhouse with Julienas and Glencadam.
Silent Achiever (Glen Boss) has also shortened in the betting with a perfect gate in barrier five.
Jockey Craig Williams will be racing to win a third consecutive Caulfield Cup on Saturday on Dandino but has drawn barrier 19, a tough start. In 2011 he rode Southern Speed to victory and last year he claimed the win on Dunaden.
My Quest For Peace, Fawkner, Waldpark and Jet Away are four other runners who have also received late support after the barrier draw.
Here’s my tip for the winner, the Exacta and I’ll have a shot at the Trifecta too. I’ll leave the First Four up to you guys.
Winner: Silent Achiever at $8.00 with IASbet.com
Exacta: Silent Achiever, Dandino
Trifecta: Silent Achiever, Dandino, Hawkspur
For some good value for money, I’d consider banking on Mr O’Ceirin for a place at $11.00 with IASbet.com
And my roughie for the race is Julienas, paying $21.00 for the victory.
