Clash of two great footballing nations headline Match Day Three

Sun, Oct 9, 11:42am by Head Editor

Netherlands v France – World Cup Qualifier

Date and Time: Tuesday, October 11, 5:45am

Venue: Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Quincy Promes netted twice on Friday to give Holland victory over Belarus, they will now make the short journey from Rotterdam to Amsterdam in good spirit for Tuesday morning’s AEDT’s clash with France.

The French will journey across the border in good spirit after Kevin Gameiro scored two goals of his own against Bulgaria on the same day. France are currently second on Group A’s Qualifying table behind the Dutch who have a superior goal difference.

The tale of the tape points to a tight contest here, in the 24 previous meetings both sides have ten win each and four draws. On Friday both teams won by four goals to one, the Dutch defeated Belarus and the French beat Bulgaria.

The last time they met was in a friendly in Amsterdam in March which France won 3-2. After failing to qualify for June’s Euro 2016 tournament the Dutch will be looking to ensure they don’t miss out on two major tournaments in a row. I’m taking the draw here.

BEST BET: Draw $3.10

Match Odds:

Netherlands $3.50

France $2.20

Draw $3.10

Slovenia v England – World Cup Qualifier

Date and Time: Wednesday October 12 5:45am

Venue: Stozice Stadium, Ljubljana, Slovenia

After a turbulent spell, even by England’s standard’s, the side got a first up win for new coach Gareth Southgate against Malta on Sunday AEDT. Goals to Daniel Sturridge and Deli Alli gave England a 2-0 win against a side that hadn’t tasted victory in 11 games in all competitions.

The win moved England to the top of Group F, but it wasn’t exactly a performance that will have the rest of Europe running scared. Next up, they face a tricky fixture in Slovenia.

In their last eight competitive away games, the Three Lions have managed six clean sheets, conceding just three times. Two of those goals were scored by Slovenia in June of 2015 when a late Wayne Rooney goal snatched a 2-3 victory.

The home side meanwhile have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions but have only lost once in their last five matches on Slovenian soil.

Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak is world class, he conceded only 18 goals in the last season for Atletico Madrid. England didn’t show much creativity against Malta on Sunday AEDT so I’m taking the draw.

BEST BET: Draw: $3.75

Match Odds:

Slovenia $5.00

Draw $3.75

England $1.66

Slovakia v Scotland – World Cup Qualifier

Date and Time: Wednesday October 12 5:45am

Venue: Stadion Antona Malatinskeho, Trnava, Slovakia

Scotland heads to Slovakia on Wednesday morning AEDT sitting in second place in Group F with four points, trailing England who top the group with six points. Slovakia are yet to open their account after two losses to Slovenia and England respectively.

Slovakian national hero Marek Hamsik recently broke Diego Maradona’s club record at Napoli for league goals and now has his sights set on overhauling the Argentinian’s overall goals record. The 29-year-old will earn his 94th cap for his country in this match.

A big inclusion for this match will be former Liverpool player and current Slovakian captain Martin Skrtel at the back. He was suspended for the game against Slovenia but looks set to return for this one.

Although Slovakia’s only won once in five matches at home in 2016, these two teams have never met before, I’m backing Slovakia to get an all-important three points here.
