The $1.5 million Group 1 UBet Stradbroke Handicap headlines an eight race card this Saturday at Doomben Racecourse.
Showers have been forecasted for the day with the track rated as a Soft 5.
The fifth race of the card and over 1350m, the 16 strong field is led by current favourite Chamagne Cuddles ($4.20) who will be ridden by Corey Brown at 50kg.
Cuddles may be aplenty if she emerges victorious with her last run at Doomben on May 26 over 1350m resulting in a third place finish, making it nine top three finishes in her nine races to date.
She has drawn barrier 1 and looks a worthy favourite.
Defending champion Impending ($6) follows her in the market and carries the top weight in the race of 57.5kg.
He has drawn barrier 9 and comes fresh from defeating Champagne Cuddles on May 26 by 1.35L. His victory last year came from barrier 13.
Perast ($6) is also on the same line of betting as Impending and will also carry a strong formline heading into Saturday, sporting back to back victories at Doomben on May 12 and May 26 both over 1350m. With Jeff Lloyd taking the reins at 50kg, he is in real contention here.
Santa Ana Lane ($14) poses a real threat to the above mentioned favourites with Ben Melham in the saddle this weekend. The pair combined to take out the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphetville on May 19 over 1200m on what was a Soft 6 track.
With the distance out to 1350m it will be interesting to see if he can replicate the feat this weekend, however he has won at 1400m, last October at Caulfield in the Group 1 Rupert Clarke.
In what is the finale to the Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival, two other Group 1 races will also feature on the day, the Queensland Derby (Race 3) and the JJ Atkins (Race 6), along with three Group 2 races.
Top weights Dark Dream ($5.50) and Heavenly Thought ($8.00) are well worth a look in the Derby with Zousain ($8) and Fundamentalist ($9) terrific value in the JJ Atkins.
Suggested Bet: Santa Ana Lane to win (Race 5) @ $14.
