Chelsea v Arsenal (1st Leg), Thursday 11th January 2018, 7am (AEDT)
Both of these clubs will be looking to put the past weekend behind them, as they struggled in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. Chelsea could only manage a goalless draw against Norwich whilst Arsenal slumped out the competition at the hands of Nottingham Forest. The Carabao Cup is likely Arsenal’s only real chance of silverware whilst Antonio Conte wouldn’t mind a shot at more glory with his Chelsea side.
Arsenal’s loss to Forest was their first ever 3rd Round FA Cup exit under long serving manager Arsene Wenger. They will be a team desperate to bounce back at the first opportunity, although that will be a tough assignment at Stamford Bridge. The British press are reporting that Arsenal will likely name a full-strength squad to take on Chelsea as they aim to bring trophies back to the Emirates.
Prior to this weekend’s loss, the Gunners had been in the midst of nine game run without defeat in all competitions. This included a last gasp draw with Chelsea that ended 2-2 after a last-minute equaliser from Hector Bellerin. They enter the Carabao Cup semi-final as underdogs, however, priced at $4.50.
Chelsea will take heart from their last meeting with Arsenal after they came from behind to only be minutes away from victory. They have been in fine form, since their shock loss to West Ham United at the beginning of December. Although Saturday’s below par performance against Championship side Norwich will have caused a number of concerns for manger Antonio Conte.
The festive fixture pile up means that sides including Chelsea rotated a number of players for the FA Cup. Meaning just as Arsenal will bring back some of their stars, Chelsea will do likewise to boost them priced at $1.72.
With this match the first in a two-legged tie, both sides could well be cautious of showing their full hand in the first game. A draw stands at $3.75.
The Carabao Cup provides an opportunity for both clubs to add to their silverware collections. Winning at any cost is the prime target for these two proud sides.
Prices are available on come back wins and draws for both Arsenal and Chelsea. The home side to come from behind a secure a draw stands as favourite priced at $7.40. With the same for Arsenal at $7.70 as they did in their last meeting. Chelsea to come back and secure victory is currently priced at $9.20, compared to Arsenal at $21.
Regardless of the result in the first leg both sides will be focused on making a date for the League Cup Final at Wembley. Chelsea stand at $1.51 to advance to the Final with Arsenal priced at $2.44, although it will be the Gunners targeting success far more than the Blues.
Bet of the Match: 1-1 Draw priced at $6.50
