The 2018-19 English Premier League season continues this weekend with a top four clash between Liverpool and Chelsea the pick of the matches.
West Ham United versus Manchester United
Saturday, 29 September at 9:30pm at London Stadium
The Hammers have put together consecutive strong performances after a horrible start to the season.
They defeated Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park before drawing 0-0 with Chelsea, despite having the best three chances of the game.
West Ham hosts Manchester United on Saturday night (AEST), with the latter struggling for consistency this season.
United are priced as $1.72 favourites to win the match, with West Ham $4.50 outsiders. The draw is paying $3.60.
United are in seventh spot on the league table with three wins, one draw and two losses from six games, but they haven’t looked impressive, even in their wins.
A midweek loss to Derby County in the League Cup further highlights the issues United have with squad depth. There are also rumours of a rift between coach Jose Mourinho and star player Paul Pogba.
What Manchester United has in their favour is a strong recent record against West Ham. They have not lost to the Hammers since 2016 when West Ham were victorious 3-2 at Upton Park.
West Ham showed that they can mix it with the big boys last weekend and we are expecting them to get something out of this one.
Best bet- West Ham United and Manchester United draw at $3.60
Chelsea versus Liverpool
Sunday, 30 September at 2:30am at Stamford Bridge
A clash of two undefeated teams takes place when Chelsea hosts Liverpool on Sunday morning (AEST).
The Reds are six from six this campaign and enter the match as $2.37 favourites. Chelsea is at home, but are outsiders with oddsmakers, priced at $2.88. The draw is paying $3.40.
Liverpool has been in scintillating form this season, picking up from where they left off the 2017-18 season.
Their attacking threats are one of, if not the best in the English Premier League and their defence has been solid this season, keeping a clean sheet in all bar one of their matches.
Chelsea has also had a strong start to the season, but last weekend’s match against West Ham showed that they are probably an attacking player or two short of being a title contender.
They boast wins against Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal this season.
That is hardly a list of big hitters by any stretch, so this will be their toughest fixture to date.
Chelsea also has Europa League to contend with this season, so the short turnaround from European competition to league fixtures will be a challenge and that may also have contributed to their bore draw against West Ham last time out.
The Reds are in sublime form and showed against Tottenham a fortnight ago that winning on the road is not a challenge for them.
They will be too strong for Chelsea in this one.
Best bet- Liverpool to win at $2.37
Cardiff versus Burnley
Monday, 1 October at 1am at Cardiff City Stadium
Two teams fighting it out at the bottom end of the table meet when Cardiff hosts Burnley.
The Bluebirds are $2.50 favourites to win, with Burnley priced at $3. The draw is paying $2.88.
Games involving these two sides produced plenty of goals last weekend, with Cardiff conceding five goals at home to Manchester City and Burnley scoring four at home against Bournemouth.
Burnley look to be finally getting their season back on track after a rocky start, with European fixtures contributing to their league demise.
Cardiff are one of the favourites to be relegated this season after earning promotion last time out.
These are the sorts of games the Bluebirds have to win, but we are struggling to find an angle to back them this season, particularly as favourites.
Burnley are offering more of an attacking threat than years gone and won’t be afraid of chasing the three points in Cardiff after a poor start to their season. The Clarets should get up in this one.
Best bet- Burnley to win at $3
