With Manchester City already crowned Champions, the real focus in the EPL is now on who will survive the relegation fight. Some clubs only have two games remaining whilst others have the benefit of a game in hand to stave off the drop to the Championship. The three sides currently sitting in the relegation zone are Southampton, Stoke City and West Brom.
A gutsy 1-0 win for West Brom kept alive their slim hopes of survival for at least another week. With other results going their way, as well as the victory the Baggies lived to fight another day. Currently without a full-time manager, however, it appears an almost certainty for them to be relegated with Sportsbet offering no price on the club.
Stoke managed to secure a vital point towards safety as they battled hard to earn a draw against Liverpool at Anfield. The home side may well have had an eye on their Champions League semi final tie in midweek, which allowed the struggling Stoke side to grab a point. They remain three points from safety priced at $1.05 to be relegated. Their destiny remains in their hands though as they prepare for the last two games of the season.
Southampton boosted their hopes of survival as two goals from Dusan Tadic gave them a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. The Saints are in an improved position to those clubs below them as they have three games remaining, although one of those is against the Champions, Manchester City. They do face Swansea on 8th May in what is shaping up to be a potential relegation decider. Southampton are priced at $1.91 to be relegated from the EPL.
Standing at $2.63, Huddersfield Town continue to be dragged into the relegation fight. A 2-0 loss to Everton at home over the weekend saw them slip further into danger. They are only three points above the relegation zone with three games to play. Realistically they need to pick up at least three points from those games to keep themselves in the EPL.
It was Swansea’s failure to beat Chelsea that sustained West Brom’s hopes of survival. The 1-0 loss left the Welsh club in the dogfight at the bottom of the EPL. Cesc Fabregas’ early goal proved crucial in the match, but Swansea will be targeting forthcoming games against other relegation threatened sides to ensure their own survival. They stand at $3.40.
At the top of the table the battle for Champions League qualification by finishing in the top four continued. Manchester United need a late goal to beat Arsenal to ensure they will finish no lower than 4th, whilst Liverpool slipped up at home to Stoke. They remain at $1.05 with 5th placed Chelsea priced at $8. Spurs solidified their hopes with a comfortable 2-0 win over Watford.
