Manchester United and Chelsea will face off in the English FA Cup Final, with both sides needing silverware to declare their success at least a partial success. Both are fairly recent holders of the prestigious trophy with United last winning it under Louis Van Gaal in 2016 and Chelsea lifted it in 2012. Indeed, the two clubs have extremely successful histories in the competition as United look for a 13th win to match Arsenal’s record whilst Chelsea would win an 8th to go on par with Spurs.
There is little to separate the two clubs heading into this clash as several side stories provide a thrilling back drop to match. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will be leading his new side out against the club with which he made his name in England. He will also be going up against his successor in Antonio Conte, a man who has felt the brunt of Mourinho’s mind games this season.
United ended the season, only one position on the table away from where they wanted to be in 2nd place, but realistically appear miles behind rivals City. A 2nd place finish and with it Champions League qualification and FA Cup Final appearance would be a success for most clubs, yet United are expected to achieve more. They will know a loss here may define this season and will be looking to rise to the occasion at $2.50.
The two clubs have met twice this season already in the EPL with a win each at this stage setting up the FA Cup Final as a decider. Chelsea won at Stamford Bridge 1-0 and United got the better of them at Old Trafford in February winning 2-1.
Chelsea are certainly capable of causing United problems, although form will be a worry for them. They ended the EPL season with a lacklustre performance in a draw against Huddersfield, before an even poorer one resulting in a 3-0 loss to Newcastle United on the last day of the season. Although prior to that they outclassed Champions League finalist Liverpool beating them 1-0. The pressure is on Antonio Conte for his side to match their price of $2.88 as last year’s Champions have had a huge fall from grace finishing outside the top four in the EPL.
There is little between the prices for the first goal scorer with Chelsea dominating. Only Romelu Lukaku for United is priced at $6.50 whilst Chelsea have Alvaro Morata, Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard at that price. Although United do also possess Anthony Martial ($7), Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez ($7.50).
