FIFA World Cup: June 22: Update, Preview and Best Bets

Fri, Jun 22, 11:59am by Staff Writer

France have cemented their position atop group C with a 1-0 win against Peru overnight.

Elsewhere in group C, after conceding an early goal, the Socceroos rallied back through a first half penalty to end their match with Denmark at 1 goal apiece.

In one of the biggest upsets in the tournament so far, Croatia shocked Argentina, beating the South American powerhouse 3-0.

Second half goals to Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic have Croatia in the box seat to claim top honours in group D, with Argentina now facing a must-win match against Nigeria to reach the knockout stage.

The weekend features a number of enthralling matches, with a host of big names in action including Brazil, Belgium, Germany and England.

Brazil should bounce back from a first game draw against Switzerland as $1.14 favourites against minnows Costa Rica who are paying $20 at Sportsbet.

Taking Brazil in the handicap market at -2 paying $2.63 is a good play considering Costa Rica will struggle to score.

Serbia and Switzerland meet in the other match in group E on Saturday morning in Kaliningrad. Serbia are $3 underdogs after their win against Costa Rica, with Switzerland $2.40 favourites.

The Swiss should be too classy for Serbia across the park and at a price of $2.40 are great value.

Mexico will be hoping their surprise win against Germany was no fluke when they play South Korea on Sunday morning in Rostov.

Mexico are $1.53 favourites for the match, with South Korea $6.50 outsiders. The draw is paying $4. South Korea offered little in attack against Sweden and will struggle against Mexico.

Mexico to win to nil at $2.25 is the play in that match.

Germany will need to bounce back against Sweden on Sunday morning as $1.36 favourites if they hope to progress to the knockout stages. Sweden are paying $8.50 to win, but would settle for a draw against the reigning champs, which is paying $4.50.

It is hard to read Germany, as they have now had three poor results in a row, something that has been unsighted in recent times. All the pressure will be on them in this match and goals at a premium, making under 2.5 goals are $1.95 a worthy option.

England struggled against Tunisia in their opening game, but face another world minnow in tournament debutants Panama on Sunday night. England are $1.17 favourites for the match, with Panama paying $21.
