Sydney FC’s midweek Asian Champions League loss to Kashima Antlers may be the reason behind their outright betting drift from $1.66 to $1.72 at Sportsbet.
The Sky Blues have been less than impressive in the past month, losing all three of their Champions League matches. They still remain heavy favourites to win the 2017-18 A-League title.
Newcastle ($4.33) and Melbourne Victory ($8) are the two teams seen to be the Sky Blues nearest competitors at Sportsbet.
Western Sydney and Perth continued their push for a finals berth on Saturday night with comfortable wins against lowly opposition.
Both teams were heavy favourites in their matches against Wellington and Central Coast respectively.
The Wanderers and Phoenix were locked at 1-1 at half time, before three second half goals, including a double from Brendan Hamill ensured a 4-1 win for Western Sydney.
A double from Joel Chianese had the Glory in full control against Central Coast, running out 3-1 winners.
Perth are three points outside of the top six and are $3.60 to play finals this season at Sportsbet.
The Wanderers win has boosted them up to fifth on the table and after a slow start this season, they are $1.12 at Sportsbet to make the finals.
The battle for the wooden spoon is between the Phoenix and Mariners, with Wellington the $1.30 favourites at Sportsbet to finish last. The Mariners are $3.30.
The disappointing Melbourne City ($8.50) who were the second favourite to win the competition for much of the season have dropped away in the past month and find themselves fourth favourites.
Western Sydney’s resurgent second half of the season has seen their odds to win the title shorten by the week. They are now $19 at Sportsbet.
Adelaide are clinging onto a position in the top six, but are not seen as a going deep into the finals at this stage, priced as $26 to win the A-League this season.
Perth ($81) and Brisbane ($91) are enormous outsiders and will be content with a finals berth at this point in the season.
There are four matches on the schedule for this weekend 2017-18 A-League season, with Adelaide hosting Melbourne City on Friday night the match of the round.
Elsewhere, Sydney host Brisbane and Melbourne Victory take on Central Coast on Sunday afternoon.
