Wins to ladder leader Sydney FC and second placed Newcastle Jets has seen both sides increase their lead over the third ranked side Melbourne City and the remainder of the competition.
The Sky Blues recorded a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in the local derby on Sunday night, whilst the Jets had to travel to Brisbane to secure a 1-0 victory on the road on Saturday afternoon.
In other games, third placed Melbourne City were unable to maintain their distance from the top two sides losing to eighth placed Perth Glory 2-1 on their road trip to nib Stadium on Saturday night.
Meanwhile their city counterpart Melbourne Victory joined them in the top four after a crushing performance over rival Adelaide United in their AAMI Park clash. The Victory were able to slot three goals into the back of United’s net to win 3-0 to move to 29 points on the table and swap positions with United who now move to fifth position.
Friday night’s game between the Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix saw the battle of the bottom two teams with hosts the Mariners securing a 1-0 win to now edge three points clear of the tenth placed Wellington outfit.
The results from the round sees Sydney FC strengthen its position at the top line of the Outright Betting market at $1.66, in from $1.80. Newcastle retain their $4.33 price as second favourite following their victory with the Melbourne Victory a new third favourite for the title at $8.50, who were previously $9.50.
Melbourne City drift notably from $7 to $9 chances following their defeat to the Glory, along with the Wanderers at $20 (formerly $18) and United $26 (formerly $18) the other top six sides to have their prices affected from defeats over the weekend.
The Wellington Phoenix are now a clear favourite for the Wooden Spoon at $1.53 (previously $2.20) replacing the Mariners who are now out to $3.30 (formerly $2.10) following their clash last Friday night.
