After Round 20’s split round and some mid-week Asian Champions League football for last season’s qualifiers, regular weekend A-League football is back and stacked with exciting matchups.
With positions relatively open between third and seventh spot on the ladder, teams will be keen to register wins this weekend to ensure they are not left behind from the others.
Brisbane Roar v Newcastle Jets
The team in seventh position and outside playoff contention if finals were to kick off this weekend is the Brisbane Roar. On 22 points, they are four points from the top six and need a win to close the gap on their nearest rivals the Western Sydney Wanderers (sixth) and Melbourne Victory (fifth) who are both on 26.
This weekend they will be happy to know they will be playing at home, however their opponent will be the second best team in the league in the Newcastle Jets, who are currently sitting on 38 points, five points ahead of third placed Melbourne City on 33 points.
The Roar had last week off, having played their round 20 fixture the previous week when they travelled to AAMI Park and defeated the Melbourne Victory 2-1 in an impressive performance. The Jets had their round 20 match last week when they were able to split points with the Western Sydney Wanderers in their entertaining 2-2 draw.
The Jets will enter the clash as a $2.25 favourite, with the Roar paying $2.80 and the Draw available at $3.60.
This contest looks set to be a closely fought one and the Draw at $3.60 is well worth a look.
Suggested Bet: Draw (Win-Draw-Win) @ $3.60
Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United
Traditional rivals Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United do battle on Saturday night at AAMI Park which sees the fifth placed team play host to number four on the table.
The Victory will be playing their second game this week after having travelled to China for their Asian Champions League clash with Shanghai East Asia on Tuesday night, where the were comprehensively defeated 4-1.
This will be their first A-League fixture since their 2-1 loss to Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park two weeks ago. United were lucky to negotiate the Central Coast Mariners last weekend 2-2 in their home fixture in what was an entertaining contest.
Despite any jet-lag concerns, the Victory head into Saturday night a clear $2.00 favourite, with Adelaide at $3.40 and the Draw $3.50.
With both sides very closely positioned on the ladder, neither would want to let the other leave Saturday night with the three points. This may be a tightly contested battle early on. The ‘Time of First Goal’ market offers the betting option of either team scoring a goal after 26th minute and looks quite a possibility.
Suggested Bet: After the 26th minute (Time of First Goal) @ $2.10
