THE opening match of the final round in 2014 has it all.
A block buster between two foundation clubs in the heart of Sydney, both of which have loomed as premiership threats in 2014.
There is plenty at stake too. Both teams sit on 32 competition points with just two points separating them on points differential.
They are both guaranteed a top four finish but a victory will gain them a home final. A win will also see them put themselves in a position to win the minor premiership should the Manly Sea-Eagles lose in Townsville.
AustralianGambling will look at the line betting or handicap market for this match.
Sydney Roosters (-2.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet.com.au
South Sydney Rabbitohs (+2.5) – $1.92
The Roosters have really hit their straps in the last few weeks. They have won five in a row and everything looks to be coming together nicely for them.
Last weekend they put the Melbourne Storm to the sword 24-12, the week before they annihilated the Warriors in New Zealand 46-12.
It is hard to discount them as genuine title contenders based on that sort of form. They look set to test South Sydney to their limits in this game.
The Rabbitohs returned to the winners circle last week with a 21-14 victory in a bruising encounter against the Canterbury Bulldogs.
A week earlier they had been outplayed by the North Queensland Cowboys when they went down 22-10 in Sydney.
The Rabbitohs won the only clash between these two teams this season with a 28-8 win way back in Round One.
Momentum is a wonderful thing at this stage of a rugby league season and the Sydney Roosters look to have it in spades.
They may be missing their hooker Jake Friend for the match but have able replacements in Mitchell Aubusson and Heath L’Estrange.
The Rabbitohs will have to play the game without their usual half back Adam Reynolds which will make their task all the more harder.
The Roosters should get the job done and cover the very small line of -2.5 in this one.
