The Boston Red Sox ($4) are favourites to win their first World Series since 2013 and have a league-leading 88-39 record this season.
The Red Sox have been tremendously consistent both at home and on the road, having a greater than 50 per cent win percentage on the road.
In the American League East, the New York Yankees are their nearest rivals both on the field and in the standings. The Yankees are 79-46 so far this season and own the second best record in the American League. The Yankees are $6.50 to win the World Series.
The Red Sox won two of the three matches between the teams in their April series at Fenway Park, as well as two of the three matches at Yankee Stadium in May.
In their most recent series at Fenway Park in early August, it was Boston who firmed in the market as they won four straight games at home to build an eight game lead on the Yankees.
Last season’s World Series champions the Houston Astros are once again going to feature in the playoffs.
Their 77-50 record leads the American League West division by only one game with the Oakland Athletics (76-51) on their tail.
The Astros are second favourites in the market to win the World Series at $5, with the Athletics seen as a big underdog at $15.
In the American League Central, the Cleveland Indians (73-52) are in first place in the division and will be looking for a deep post-season run. They are $11 to win the World Series.
The National League standings are headed by the Chicago Cubs (71-53) who have a narrow lead on the St Louis Cardinals in the National League Central division.
The Cubs famously won their first World Series in over 100 years in 2016 when they beat the Cleveland Indians.
The Cubs are $10 to win the World Series.
The Atlanta Braves top the standings in the National League East, with the Philadelphia Phillies a chance of overtaking them late in the season.
The two teams are separated by only two games, with the Braves $17 to win the World Series and the Phillies $21.
The Baltimore Orioles (37-90) and Kansas City Royals (38-88) have the worst records in the MLB this season.
It’s been a so-so year for the MLB’s Californian franchises.
The popular Los Angeles Dodgers (67-60) trail the Colorado Rockies (68-57) and first-placed Arizona Diamondbacks (70-56) in the National League West standings.
The San Francisco Giants have won 62 games and lost 65, while the San Diego Padres are bottom of the division with only 50 wins this season.
The Diamondbacks are $14 to win the World Series and the Giants big outsiders are $76.
The Dodgers are $9.50 and the shortest-priced team in the National League to win the World Series.
The Los Angeles Angels compete in the American League and have a 63-64 record this season.
