The Dolphins and Colts may not be playing in the highest-profile game of Week 2, but it is certainly one of the most interesting. Both teams are coming off of strong Week 1 performances, as the Dolphins beat the Cleveland Browns 23-10, while the Colts came from behind in the final minutes to beat the Oakland Raiders 21-17.
This game sees two teams led by young quarterbacks who are among the up-and-coming teams in the AFC. The Indianapolis Colts made the playoffs last year behind the strong play of Andrew Luck, who once again proved heroic in Indianapolis’ victory last week. Luck only threw for 178 yards, but that was on 18-23 passing and included two touchdowns. Luck also ran for a touchdown, once again showing his mobility.
On the other side of the field, the Miami Dolphins are led by Ryan Tannehill. While he may not have the pedigree or hype that surrounds Luck, Tannehill has been solid for the Dolphins. He also has plenty of room to improve, considering he only started playing quarterback late in his college career.
In the battle of the quarterbacks, though, there’s no contest: Andrew Luck could easily become an elite quarterback, while Tannehill is still a work in progress. But games aren’t entirely determined by the quarterbacks, and there are some issues that came up last week which suggest Miami may have a decent shot in this game.

While the Colts were happy to start the season with a win, they had to be concerned with how much trouble they had against the Oakland Raiders. The Colts struggled to score after a strong start, and Miami’s defense looked tough against Cleveland, recording six sacks on Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden. That could make things tougher for Luck, though the young star has proven he isn’t easy to rattle.
Were this game being played in Miami, I’d feel like the Dolphins could pull off a minor upset here. But I have to stick with the Colts in a home game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indy may have struggled last week, but they’re the team with the better talent overall, and the one that has proven that they can be a contender. Miami will be going into this game feeling like they can win it, and with plenty of justification. But in the end, I expect Andrew Luck to once again find a way to lead the Colts to a close victory – just enough to cover the spread.
Prediction: Indianapolis 21, Miami 17
Pick: Colts -2.5
Dolphins +1 (2.06)
Colts -1 (1.80) with IASbet.com
As mentioned above, I like the Colts at home. They only have to cover a point spread of -1, and realistically I see them taking it by at least a field goal. I’ve got a full unit in this market.
Over: 43.5 (1.94)
Under: 43.5 (1.90)
Given my prediction of a 21-17 score, I like the under in this game. This leaves us a cushion of 5 points, and this looks a good bet to me.
