Moonee Valley Saturday June 16 – Preview, Odds and Best Bet

Fri, Jun 15, 11:34am by Staff Writer

Moonee Valley is Melbourne’s destination for racing this Saturday with a scheduled ten race card.

The track has been set to a soft rating 5 with scattered showers forecast on the day. The rail has been set out 4m across the entire circuit.

The GJK Facility Services Plate in Race 8 will be run over 2040m and appears a relatively open race.

The market is led by Lite’n in My Veins ($4.20) who will be the top weight at 62.0kg with Liam Riordan on the saddle. Having had his last three races on soft tracks for two wins and a third place including a win on June 2 at Moonee Valley, he looks the one to beat in this race.

My Nordic Hero ($5.00) and Magnapal ($10) finished second and third to Lite’n in My Veins on June 2 and will be expected to be once again in contention this Saturday. They both will have different riders in the saddle, with Michael Walker and Jy McNeil taking the reins from Michael Dee and Dwayne Dunn.

Dunn and Dee will instead be on other fancies Have Another Glass ($4.60) and Black on Gold ($6.50). Have Another Glass comes into the race on strong form having triumphed at Morphettville on May 19 over 2019m on a soft 6.

Black on Gold most recently recorded a third place over 1800m at Rosehill in a what was a strong run. Should be in the mix come the final straight.

The Embassy Print Solutions Sprint in Race 7 will be over 1000m and is led by Miss Leonidas ($3.9) who will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn. She is in terrific form, last week recording a third place finish at Flemington which was preceded by a win at Ballarat on a heavy 8 track, with Dunn on board both times.

She is closely followed by Tarcoola Spirit who will have Damien Oliver taking the reins. She is back after a second placing at Flemington on May 19 where she was pipped by Egyptian Bullet by 0.20L.

Cath’s Village ($8.5) enters the race in excellent form, most recently recording a win at Geelong Synthetic over 1100m and prior to that a win at Geelong on a soft 6. Chris Parnham will carry 56.0kg this week on her, which will be a welcome reduction from the 60.5kg and 58.0kg she carried the past two meets.

In other races on the day, Good Oh ($8.00) in Race 2 and Princeton Spirit ($4.20) in Race 4 are well worth a look.

Suggested Bet: Cath’s Village to win (Race 7) at $8.50
