Racing returns to Moonee Valley this weekend with a nine race card in store.
This will be the first meet at the venue since March 23 and we are set for an interesting day of thoroughbred action.
The rail appears to be the true position with the track set to be good / soft, set at a rating 4.
The Dominant Martin Ralston Cup, race 7 handicap will be run over 2,040m and has quite an even line up. My Nordic Hero ($5.50) ridden by Michael Dee leads the market and is fresh off a second placed finish to last year’s Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time at Flemington on May 19.
Pilote D’Essai ($7.50) with Fred Kersley on board has three of his six wins on dry ground with 2016 Melbourne Cup entrant Grey Lion a $8.50 chance who will be ridden by Ben Melham.
Magnapal ($13) recorded a victory on April 14 at Caulfield over 2000m at $26 however finished 7th at Warrnambool in his following outing in Warrnambool. At $12, could present a good look with Dwayne Dunn on board.
High Church ($11), to be ridden by Damian Lane looks a real chance with the track conditions and is considered respectable value.
Race 8’s Dominant 60 Years Handicap over 1600m sees top weight Iconoclasm a clear cut favourite at $2.25. With three consecutive wins at Flemington since Anzac Day, he sure looks the one to beat. Ethan Brown will be on board the colt.
Andaz ($6.00) is racing well at present with two placings in his past four races with Ben Melham on board.
Free Fly Too ($19.00) presents strong value with Craig Williams in the saddle this weekend, having recorded an impressive victory in Geelong on April 29 over 1525m.
Other horses to keep an eye out for in other races on the day include Anjana ($1.95) in Race 1, Creativity ($4.40) in Race 3 and Wise Hero ($4.80) in Race 9.
In a day with many wide open races, expect there to be a few surprises in store.
Suggested Bet: Andaz to win (Race 8) at $6.
