NBA Midweek Best: Get on the Wizards and the Jazz

Wed, Mar 22, 4:13pm by Staff Writer

The Wizards will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Southeast Standings when they battle the Hawks in Washington. The Knicks head out to Utah to take on the Jazz, with Aussies Joe Ingles and Dante Exum looking to put another dent in their season. At we’ll keep you in the know with the best bets for the midweek action.

Hawks @ Wizards

Verizon Centre, Washington – Thursday 23 March, 11.00am AEDT

TV: Live on ESPN

The Hawks match-up with the Wizards represents one of the more intriguing hardcourt battles this week. The Wizards are heading for a top four seeding in the East and a win against the Hawks would put some distance between them and the fifth-placed Hawks, who are already five games behind.

But it’s not all good news in the capital, with the Wizards losing four of their past five and struggling against sides who average above .500.

The Hawks, meanwhile dropped their fourth straight game against the Hornets this week, and will be desperate to gain some winning momentum over the last 13 games of the regular season. They have some injury concerns over trio Paul Millsap, Kent Bazemore and Mike Dunleavy, with Millsap’s absence the most damaging.

Dennis Schroder had 20 points and 6 assists against the Hornets, and we can expect him to run the show against the Wizards. Dwight Howard lent good support collecting 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wizards also lost to the Hornets this week, and have since been defeated by the Celtics as well.

But they have won their past two against the Hawks, including a 112-86 win in Atlanta in January.

In the loss to the Celtics earlier this week Bradley Beal top scored with 19 points and he had some help from assist machine John Wall with 16 points and 8 assists. Wall has been leading the Wizards this season with 10.8 assists.

The Wizards are $1.34 favourites for the win and the Hawks are outsiders at $3.42.

This is the game of the week for the neutral fan. The Wizards will be looking to bounce back from the bruising encounter with the Celtics and home court advantage tips the scales in the Wizards favour and they should come away with a close win.

BEST BET: Wizards to win by 1-10 – $2.39

Knicks @ Jazz

Vivint Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake City – Thursday 23 March, 1.30pm AEDT

TV: Live on ESPN

The Jazz will be looking to bounce back from the loss to the Pacers as they host the Knicks. Aussie fans will be hoping for happier days for Aussie duo Dante Exum and Joe Ingles. The travel-weary Jazz were 1-4 on the road, and need some winning momentum.

The Knicks have had more drama this season than an episode of the Kardashians. Back-to -back to losses to the Clippers and the Nets have killed their playoff chances for a fourth consecutive season. With their season gone, the Knicks won’t take their foot off the gas, and will instead look to give their younger players court time.

The Jazz did themselves no favours against the Pacers earlier in the week with a close loss. Gordon Hayward stepped up with 38 points. Rudy Gobert grabbed 16 points and 14 rebounds. The Jazz will be looking for more involvement from their bench, and their Aussie duo who were kept quiet in the loss to the Pacers.

For Knicks the silver lining for the season is the development of their younger players. Kristaps Porzingis has stepped up more into a leadership role this season. With more consistency from Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose, then the Knicks should be able to finish the season on a strong note.

But the Knicks are outsiders for this clash at $5.60 and the Jazz are favourites at $1.16.

The Jazz got the money on their previous outing with the Knicks earlier in the season and I’m tipping the Jazz to bounce back with a close win at home.

BEST BET: Jazz to win by 1-10 – $2.62
